LAURINBURG — Marie Blake Sinclair passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2024 after a five-year journey with dementia. Up until the end, Marie maintained her sweet kindness, grace, appreciation of beauty, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Laurinburg, officiated by Rev. Jeanne Baucom. Burial will be private at Hillside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
She was born in Lumberton, NC in 1930 to Benjamin Terrell Blake and Pearl Prevatte Blake and by her account, had a happy childhood. Marie attended Lumberton High School before attending Women's College (WC) in Greensboro and earned a degree in teaching. She went on to teach elementary school in Laurinburg and met and married Duncan James Sinclair, Jr. and had four sons.
Marie had a love for flowers, beautiful skies, reading, and creating quilts and afghans. She was the worlds best wall picture arranger. Marie was a good Southern cook. Her cheese straws and desserts were appreciated by all. She had a love of music, playing piano (Kitten on the Keys), ukulele, and singing in the First Baptist Church Choir (alto) for many years. She loved golf and always did well. She loved taking family photos and creating photo albums. Marie was a sweet person and always gave others more than she received.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Sinclair (Brenda) and Bill Sinclair (Jo-Annah) of Laurinburg, David Sinclair and John Sinclair (Holly) of Montgomery, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Byers (Matt), Alyson Watson (Jesse), Kristi Sinclair, Duncan Sinclair, IV (Ashley), Melissa Sinclair (Andrew), Elizabeth Burroughs (Jesse), Bridget Quick (Kendrick), Ben Sinclair (Adria), Will Sinclair, Ella Grace Sinclair; and great-grandchildren, Ruby Sinclair, Sydney McMillian, Kimberly Burroughs, Miley Burroughs, Gabrielle Burroughs, Gracelyn Quick, Maddie Byers, Charlie Byers, Olivia Byers, Landon Watson, Emma Watson, Holly Naomi Sinclair, Jameson Sinclair, Charlie Sinclair, Henry Sinclair, and Carey Sinclair. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, (Dunc) Sinclair and her granddaughter, Annadell Sinclair.
She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 302 E. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352.
