Dean was one of my first friend when I moved to Los Alamitos in 3rd grade. What I first noticed about him was, WEL, his name, of course, yet quickly after, his wit and quick thinking. It was always enjoyable chatting with him. His birthday was the first birthday I went to for a boy. His mom didn't quite what to do with me, she was so sweet and hung out with me while the boys romped around.
In high school we went to different schools, yet, he was very good friends with my best friend's brother, Jon. Often she relented to torture of Dean since he. like many guys, crushed on her. She was a beauty. Always in good fun they would banter. Jon and Dean would play music and impress us with their antics. Sometimes we would all just watch cartoons after school. It was always innocent and good fun. Really, so memorable in its simplicity. Always chatty, ready to push buttons and yet respectful end earnest in his approach to friendship.
While in grad school I bumped into him at CSULB. He said he was taking a course. He visited my art studio, we caught up. He had become so handsome. He probably always was. He told me about his sweet children, his ex who was his dear friend. I told him about my family too. We relived a few old memories. This was in 2009 or so. We enjoyed time spent catching up, but made no future plans, myself an artist and he a lawyer, we were both working hard in our crafts. We lost touch.
What a terrible heartbreak to hear of his passing. Im so sorry to his loved ones. May you find peace in your love for him.
