Elizabeth Gibbs Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Catura Gibbs
April 16, 1930 - January 16, 2013

It is impossible to capture in words the beautiful, generous, loving, intelligent, creative and energetic soul that is Betty Gibbs. A renaissance woman of many talents, she was a cub scout leader, a rock hound, a voracious reader, artist and an exemplary needle worker and seamstress. She inspired in her family and friends a love of education, art and crafts. An active parishioner of St. John of God Parish for over 60 years, her values have served as the guiding principles to all she touched. She was always there for us, in the good times and most especially in the rough ones. Born in Arkansas Wisconsin, Betty lived and raised her children in the same Norwalk California home since 1952. A graduate of Cerritos Jr. College with both an AA and an AS degree acquired after her children were grown, for 16 years until her retirement in 1994, she was the efficient, smiling face of the career technician at Cerritos Jr. College Career Center and Career Counseling Offices. She was generous in service to others and loved roses, gardens, books of all kinds and subjects, chocolates and dessert, crafts, needlework, sewing, and most especially family and friends. She is predeceased in March of 2012, by her husband of 62 years, Paul LeRoy. Gibbs, Sr. Survived by her sister, Catherine Mary Prochazka; her children, Mari-Ann Gibbs Rivers, Paul LeRoy Gibbs, Sr. with spouse Diane, and Timothy Scott Gibbs with spouse Lea; her much beloved grandchildren, Aimée Rivers, Erick Gibbs, Christian DeGeneffe, Nicholas Gibbs with spouse Liseth, Heather Gibbs, Paul LeRoy Gibbs III, Audrey Gibbs and 5 great grandchildren; cousins, Sandy and Terry Fluke, the Decks; nieces and nephews Amy, Lisa, Kurt and their families along with innumerable extended family and friends all over the country, each one of whom she loved and who loved her. Our rock, our hearth, the heart of our family, she loved nothing more than to be surrounded by the warmth and chaos of family. Forever in our hearts she will be reflected forever in our love for each other. Vigil: January 22, 2013, Chapel of Memories; funeral and burial, January 23, 2013, St. John of God Church. Betty was so generous to all and asked nothing in return. You liked to figure people out, and that is what interested you about them and at the same time you were endearing your to them. I'll really miss you

I'm so sorry not to be with all of you at this time. All my love
is wrapping you in my arms. I have so many precious memories in my mind and heart about my big sister and to know one can ever take them away. Love you all and please keep in touch. Aunt Cathy
