Frederick Sebring Obituary

June 5, 1923 - December 4, 2021 Fred Sebring passed away peacefully in his home on December 4, 2021, with family around him. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Payson Sebring, and by his brothers Herbert and Robert Sebring and his sister Caroline Henry. He is survived by his sister Mildred Benedict, by his six children (Judith Sebring, Candace Powell (Lee), Penelope Daugherty (Peter), Sarah Binder (Brad), Peter Sebring (Sharon), and Audrey Black (Steve)), his ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Fred, the fifth and youngest child of Robert Elwood and Mabel Agnes Yeatman Sebring, was born and raised in Roslindale, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. He met the love of his life, Helen Payson, in Harvard Square, while he was studying engineering at Northeasten University. Fred married Helen after serving in the U.S. Navy through World War II. Fred and Helen left the Boston area and headed west soon after they married to explore and pursue broader professional opportunity and settled in Denver, Colorado. All six of their children were born and raised in the Denver area. However, new and broader opportunity again called and Fred and Helen moved further west to the greater Los Angeles area, first to Monrovia, then Seal Beach, and finally to Stanton. Fred touched the lives of the many people in his life from his family and friends, to the people he worked with professionally as an engineer. However, for every person whose life he touched, he remembered people who had touched and shaped his life, in small and not so small ways. In his own words, he considered himself "immensely fortunate to have lived, played, and worked with many wonderful people around me" and described his life as "an ordinary life of extraordinary happiness." Fred will forever be remembered for his warm and ready smile; as the ultimate do-it-yourself handyman; for his positive outlook on life; his huge and generous heart and willingness to provide a helping hand when anyone needed his assistance; his belief in the importance of taking informed risks to live a full life; his love of adventure and travel, starting with far-ranging camping trips when his children were young and then traveling the world with Helen; his passion for justice and peace in the world; and most of all, his abiding love for all of his family. While he will be missed terribly, he is now at peace and reunited with the love of his life. Fred's family will be holding a celebration of his life in his "happy place" the mountains which beckoned to both Fred and Helen with their promise of wonder, tranquility, and the sound of music. Amazing grace is with you, now and forever.
