Leroy Carruth Obituary
Leroy Vance Carruth, 89, of Bellflower California passed away early on the morning of June 23, 2014 at the Country Villa Seal Beach Health Center. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the Bellflower Church of Christ (17054 Clark St., Bellflower) on Sunday, June 29 beginning at 10 am, followed by a luncheon. All who knew and loved Vance are invited.
Born in Vernon Texas, Vance ministered to the Bellflower Church of Christ for 35 years before continuing as a respected Church elder. Born on January 26, 1925, his creative genius included diversions as an accomplished musician, inventor, magician, ham radio operator, radio disc jockey and aviation instructor. Vance was a graduate of Pepperdine University in California.
Until his passing, Vance was married to "Jerry" Carruth for 70 years. They met when they were both 18 years old and never parted. Vance is also survived by his daughter, Connie Ruth Lovelady and son, Vance Jr. Carruth. Please sign the guestbook at

Vance was my mentor and guru. I attended the Church of Christ in Bellflower as a teenager. He must have seen a spark of intelligence in me. Because he took me under his wing from the ages of 12-18. He brought me out of darkness into the light. He taught me public speaking and I won trophies at the Toastmasters Club. I am organised in my mind due to his brilliance as a tutor and friend with a 3.8 average in high school and in all the universities I have attended due to his guidance and patience. I have his picture on my computer desktop. It is 2018 and I am teaching my son, Robert, here in the Fiji Islands, all the thoughtful things Vance taught me. Although he is gone, he will always be in my mind, my son's mind and so on and he will never die for generations to come.

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die . Vance will always be in our hearts. His wisdom and humor will always be in our thoughts. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family.
