Sandra VanHorn Obituary

Sandie Van Horn

Sandra Van Horn was called to heaven on January 23, 2013 after a long fought battle with cancer. Sandie was born on December 7, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack, of 50 years; three sons, Christopher, Matthew and Nicholas; as well as seven special grandchildren, Nicholas, Caden, Briella, Vincent, Matthew, Vivienne and Jacob. Born with travel in her blood, Sandie came to Los Angeles in the 1960's to travel the world as a stewardess for TWA. After starting a family, travel became even more paramount as she remained in the industry until 2008 taking every opportunity available to expose her family to the wonders of the world. Sandie and her husband Jack opened College Center Travel in 1986 where Sandie truly got to share her love of the world and its adventures with her clients. Always preparing the most detailed and enthusiastic itineraries. Sandie had a passion for reading, writing and swimming. She also shared this with her seven grandchildren with many trips to the library, annual Scottish Festivals and of course lots of swim! She also was very active in environmental causes in her community. Spending hours on end to keep the integrity and environment alive in Long Beach. Nothing was ever dull with Sandie as a bit of mystery and drama was just in her nature. She always had a zest for life whether it be travel, reading, or her Scottish heritage. Sandie truly touched the hearts of all who met her and she will be forever missed. "God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven, and if it takes my dog, being there, I believe he'll be there." Billy Graham. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 1, at 10:30 A.M., St. Anne Catholic Church, Seal Beach. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Sandie's name, please send your donation to: Vanguard Cancer Foundation 750 E. 29th St. Long Beach, CA 90806. Sandie was one of the best and knowledgeable travel agents we had providing excellent service to her clients. She always had the best interests of the clients at all times. We will certainly miss her for our future travel arrangements. No doubt she will have a place in heaven.

So sad to hear of Sandie's passing. She was a delight to have in one's life. Always ready to help, to explore, to do whatever to assist in making a vacation. a business trip or whatever, a fun experience.Sandie helped my mother and me in so many ventures beginning at the time of opening her office well into the early 21st Century. Sandie was always there. Thank you so much for so many wonderful times.
