Stanley Bjerke Obituary

Stanley G. Bjerke After a weekend surrounded by loving family and friends, Stanley G. Bjerke walked away from cancer and into the waiting arms of Jesus on Monday, January 17, 2011. He was a resident of Lakewood for over fifty years and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janelle; sons, Eric and Carl; daughter, Kathy; and older siblings, Don and Beulah Mae (Billie). He also has nine grandchildren. Stan was born in North Dakota on April 17, 1933 and came to California in 1941. He attended Long Beach schools and graduated from Long Beach City College. After stints working with his father and uncles as a carpenter, he worked for over 35 years at the Long Beach Navel Shipyard as a machinist, foreman, and progressman. He is an Army veteran, having served from 1953 to 1955. Stan was a devoted follower of Angels baseball, UCLA football and basketball, an avid golfer, and served actively in his church for many years. A more faithful, kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend is hard to find. He was one of the good guys and will be sorely missed. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29 at Community Grace Brethren Church in Long Beach, 5885 Downey Ave. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obituaries.

I will always remember Stan's gentle smile and kind ways. He truly loved you Jan, as well as Katie and your boys. Katie, you were a great Nurse to your father and I know he appreciated you, as I did. I also appreciated your In-Laws - what great people. I was truly honored to be his Hospice Nurse, and I will miss you all. Mary-Em Manley
