Alfonso Romero Obituary

Alfonso "Poncho" Romero, Jr, age 85, of Del Cerro passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017. He was born February 17, 1932 in Gallup to Alfonso Sr. and Delfina Sierra Romero. "Poncho", as he was fondly known to family and friends served his country honorably in the United States Army. After the military Poncho was a self-employed Electrician and a retail Salesman. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his two sons, Michael Romero of Del Cerro and Alfonso Romero III, of El Paso, TX; three daughters, Edna Acosta (Robbie), Joann Romero (Pat Gonzalez) and Sally Hernandez (Stan Hargraves) all of Las Cruces; a brother, Joe Romero of Albuquerque; three sisters, Lorraine Zamora and Paula Romero both of Rio Rancho, and Angelita Orona (Elias) of California. Other survivors include ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Poncho was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie Telles Romero in 2014; two sons, Robert and Steven Romero; three brothers, Frank, Tony, and Felix Romero and two sisters, Julia Candelaria and Nora Padilla.
Visitation will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street with the Reverend Chuck Hinkle, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at 2:30 PM that same afternoon in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Road, El Paso, TX with military honors will be accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard.
Serving as casket bearer will be Jerry Lopez, Robert Romero, Jr, Michael Romero, Joshua Hernandez, Dominic Romero and Max Tapia. Honorary bearers will be Robbie Acosta, Pat Gonzalez and Benny Tapia.

Today we say vaya con Dios Dad. You will be taking a part of my heart with you. I Miss you so much already but I know you are in great hands, pain free and you now join the love of your life, your wife, my Momma, your Sons Bobby and Steven and your Daughter you've never met that died at birth, Patricia.
