Manuel Gonzales

Manuel "Manny" B. Gonzales, 81, longtime resident of Las Cruces, joined his deceased wife, Nellie B. Gonzales, and son, James Gonzales, when he entered eternal life Friday, May 9, 2014, at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. We say goodbye to a wonderful man who was known for his caring and generosity. The musicians of Las Cruces have lost a longtime, passionate percussionist and conga player. He was born Feb. 22, 1933, to Louis L. Gonzales and Beatrice Benegas. Mr. Gonzales retired as an electrical engineering technician from White Sands Missile Range. He served his country honorably In the Unites States Army, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include four siblings, Bertha, Flora, Max and John. Five sons, Martin L., Alfred C., and Richard P., all of Las Cruces, Michael J., of Dallas, and Edward F., of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jacob, Jason, Joshua, Steven, Matthew and Rashanna. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St. His cremains will be placed in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Columbarium.
