Marshall Boyer Obituary

MARSHALL JAMES BOYER, age 73, of Las Cruces passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in his home after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born to Marshall and Ruth Jane Boyer on December 22, 1933 in Rochester, New York.
Loving known as "Jim" or "Boss," he enjoyed the marvels of creation at his country home and never ceased to offer one of his many jokes to make us all laugh. Retired from the Physical Science Lab as a Purchasing Agent at New Mexico State University, he kept his co-workers in a straight line and in stitches. He offered his talents and set an example to many young men as a Boy Scout Leader and has been a good friend to all those who have known him, especially those in his Holy Cross Parish family. Without his presence, all our lives will be less complete.
Survivors include his three children, Marshall Boyer and wife Ruth of Deming; Randy Boyer and wife Tess of Las Cruces; and Marina Gamez and husband Steven of Houston, Texas. He also left behind eight grandchildren, Monika and Shawn Loyd, Johnathan Ritter, Aaron, Hilary and Kaitlyn Boyer all of Las Cruces, Marshall Boyer of Monterey, California, Tasha Boyer of Albuquerque; two great grandchildren, Sierra Berry of San Francisco, California and Joshua Loyd of Las Cruces; two step grandchildren, Rudy and Brenda Garcia; one step great grandchild, Raeanna Ramirez.
Other survivors include his sister, Marcia Jane Rzonca and husband Lenny of Ashville, North Carolina; one nephew, David Marshall Carlisle of Georgia, and two nieces, Laine Burnworth of Las Cruces and Traci Scott and husband Chris of Cloudcroft.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife and soul mate, Peggy Lou, and his precious grandsons, James Robert Boyer and Sean Colin Boyer.
A Rosary Vigil will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda where a Memorial Mass in his honor will be celebrated Monday, June 11, 2007 at 12:10 PM. Monsignor John E. Anderson will be celebrating. Inurnment of cremains will follow in St. Francis Columbarium.
Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels, and Baca's Mimbres Crematory. 527-2222.

To The Boyer Family:

We are so sorry to learn of Jim's passing. As a colleague of Jim at the Physical Science Laboratory during the 60's I was privileged to work with him quite frequently, and I enjoyed the association very much. He approached every task with great common sense and humor.
We shall all miss him, and wwe extend our heartfelt condolences to you and yours.

Sincerely,
George and Julie Conrad

I was always amazed and envious of Boss's wonderful, sly, corny, witty, masterful sense of humor. I'll miss that most about him. From the first time I met him, his teasing and joking made me feel like I was part of the family, and I will always be grateful for that.

Jim (Boss) Boyer will be deeply missed for his corny jokes, croaked smile and loving nature. I'm sure that Jim and Peggy are up there 'catching up' on the last eighteen months of separation. We all know that without Jim's quiet, steadfast support, Peggy would not have been able to do all the special things she did for everyone. Even though this leaves a huge hole in our lives, they are most definitely enjoying being with Jesus and each other.
