Monte Correll Obituary

Monte Correll, was born November 09, 1950 in Albuquerque, NM, and passed away very unexpectedly on September 19, 2009. He was raised in Belen, NM and attended NMSU in Las Cruces. He made Las Cruces his home. Monte loved the outdoors, and in his younger years was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite place, that he considered his paradise, was the family cabin in the Pecos Wilderness.

Monte was preceded in death by his mom, Joyce Correll, his first wife, Linda Correll, and a step son Michael Ybarra. He is survived by his Dad, A D Correll of Belen, his son and the light of his life Andy Correll, of Las Cruces, one sister Maxine Scripter and her husband Larry, of Belen, two stepsons James Frost and wife Leah of Indiana, and Adam Frost of Las Cruces, one step daughter Carolyn Ybarra of Colorado, and many loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Las Cruces, with the Rev. James Large officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the NM Fish and Game, or the charity of your choice.

My friend, my confidant, my brother. How do I go on without you? My life will never be the same. A day will not go by that I don't long to talk to you. Until we meet in another place, I miss you and love you.

Dearest Family,
It was such a shock to lose my gentle giant of a cousin, Monte. He was known for being quick with a kind or clever word, and it was always a treat when he chimed in on our family emails, with a funny one-liner or wise word. Mont, you will be missed! There's a hole in the family now. May God's peace and comfort come to all who loved you.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Monte, a classmate from elementary and high school. I am reminded how special and short our time here on earth is. May he rest in peace! My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this kind and gentle man. May you find comfort in your memories and the time you spent together

Monte was one of my best freinds in college. He and Mike Bernabe and I (among others) spent alot of time together just hanging out. Monte was always happy, generous, and a faithful friend. May God bless and comfort the Correll family in their grief for losing such an awesome brother/child! You will be greatly missed, my friend! See you in the Kingdom!

Monte and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Belen....along the ditch bank. What marvelous Halloween displays he and his mom used to construct! Life was so much simpler then. Who knew that we would grow up with a similar passion for camping and the mountains. My sincere condolences to the family and to Lorraine. Your sadness will be lessened by the fond memories of Monte that you keep in your hearts.

When we first started seeing each other Monte knew I liked Josh Groban. This song, To Where You Are, always brought tears to my eyes. Monte asked me why I was crying and I told him because this song is so beautiful and sad. He would listen to my Josh Groban cd so I bought one for him. This song is on it and it sings to Monte what I want him to know. Lorraine

I do not even know where to begin. Monte was my favorite cousin. He understood me and showed me a sincere love. I have spent many moments with him in Las Cruses and will not know what to do with him gone.
It was always a bright spot for us both to talk about old and new times. I think it is important to remember that our time on earth is short and making good "last" memories, daily are important. I had great last moments with my cousin, Monte, and my heart is a bit broken knowing that this special guy who has been with me intermittently for my whole life is not here. They do not make "GREAT" men like him often and my world is spinning. Goodbye my cousin, I appreciate all the good memories and great moments......hold on to that special CC, keep it cold for me, I'll see you soon!
I love you so much
Brenda=)

Monte was one of my best fiends in college. I met him when he was assigned to be my roommate during our freshman year. We have shared all the memories young men can make including catching many a fish in many beautiful places in New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. Life separated us for about 34 years and in March my good friend Monte tracked me down. We shared a 3 hour phone call and a promise to fish the Pecos again. The fishing trip won't get to happen in a physical sense, but I know he is up at the cabin now over by the river figuring out which rock that big trout in hiding under. My spirit is there with him. He is the best of friends. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all his family and other friend. We will miss him. With love, Mike

To Monte's family, my prayers go out to you all. I graduated from Belen High School with Monte. But I must share my most fond memory of this wonderful person, as ever time I visit Dripping Springs I can't help but think about him. Monte was quite the camper. I would have never gone camping at dripping springs had it not been for him and the band. You see you could only get to dripping springs years ago if you had a four wheel drive vehicle. Well the band went up there to spend the night. I watched as everyone unloaded all their camping stuff. I was worried cause several of us were with Monte and we didn't take anything. I soon found out that no one ever needed to worry if Monte was around. When we weren't looking he had scoped out that old house that's up there and he even made sure we had the fireplace going just in case we were cold. We'er we ever happy to have him around with all his knowledge about camping. Monte will be missed, and I'm so thankful to have known him. May God bless and keep you all. Bertha

I first met Monte at football practice in Belen in 1965. I was new in town and Monte made a point of making me feel welcome. We played side by side that year and I don't remember many scores but I remembered the good buddy forever. I lost track of Monte when my family moved, but renewed the friendship in Las Cruces in the 70's. We hunted, fished, threw horse shoes, drank, smoked, told lies and jokes, wired his house, ate meals with both of our families many times, cussed and discussed politicians, and I asked him to sell my land. He was a wealth of knowledge and had a considered opinion on almost any subject. Monte was a great friend and a great man and I'll keep his memory alive as long as I am.
Adios buddy.

Ken & I had known Monte for 20 years and have many fond memories. If there was anything we wanted to know about the state of New Mexico, he always had the answer.
Ken remembers the fun they had going to auctions and making sales calls. They were very close and shared many joys and sorrows.
I remember how proud he was of his roses, and the times he brought some of them to work. They were so beautiful. I remember how excited he was to be chosen for the oryx hunt, and the picture he brought in of his prize.
Monte was so intellegent, and so fun, and so sweet, and always there for us. We will always cherish our memories of him.
God bless all of you.

I was so sorry to hear of Monte's passing. Monte was a good friend who I remember fondly. We worked in real estate together and went on many fishing trips. Sometimes, Andy went with us, and I am sure he remembers the time we forgot the battery to the boat and had to fish from shore. Once we returned with a large striper, but generally, we didn't catch a lot of fish, but we always had a good time. I will miss Monte and his great sense of humor.
