Anthony G. Verna, 84, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of the late Katherine L Reppert. Born in Lebanon on August 20, 1932, Anthony was a son of the late Joseph and Adeline (Mattioli) Verna. Anthony was a member of St. Mary's Church and a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Maennerchor Club in Lebanon and the Myerstown VFW Post 6076. Anthony began working as a police officer with the Lebanon City Police Department in 1955, was promoted, and served as a sergeant for several years before leaving the police force in 1975. For the next 20 years, he was employed by the former GenCo in Lebanon until his retirement in 1995. Most importantly, Anthony was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Katherine of 58 years until her passing in 2011, and an incredible father who loved his family with all of his heart. Anthony was a delegator at heart who, together with his wife, lovingly instilled the importance of family in the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren he leaves behind. He is survived by four children, Gary A. Verna and his wife, Kathy, Stephanie A. Petruska and her husband, Paul, Edward J. Verna, Sr. and his wife, Emma, and Anthony J. Verna, Sr; eleven grandchildren, Gary Jr., Joseph A. and his wife, Jessica, Michael J. and his wife, Brandi, Daniel S. and his wife, Lori, Gregory Petruska and his wife, Summer, Nicole Marie Rhoads and her husband, David, Danielle E., Kristine L. Kensky and her husband, Daniel, Edward J., Jr., Gianna M., and Anthony, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Angeline Keim. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Verna; and two brothers, Joseph and Nicholas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 2 North 8th Street, Lebanon, PA 17046. A visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Interment with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
