Ann Campbell Obituary

Ann Elizabeth Campbell died peacefully in her home in Eau Claire on January 10, 2021. Ann was surrounded by the compassionate nursing staff of Appeal to Heaven.
Ann was born in Sparta on April 14, 1933 to Eugene and Lillian Merlo. Her father was a banker and her mother a teacher in the Bangor, Onalaska, and Cashton school districts.
Ann graduated from Bangor High School in 1951. She was valedictorian of her class. In 1952, Ann married Charles Campbell of Rockland. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with a major in elementary education, Ann began a distinguished teaching career. She taught kindergarten at various schools in La Crosse, including Washburn and Hamilton.
In 1968, Charles joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, as a professor in the art department. In turn, Ann joined the Eau Claire School District. For a number of years, she taught at Park Elementary School. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Ann also taught early childhood education methods to students at UWEC. She was repeatedly recognized as an outstanding educator until her retirement in 1990.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna, and her husband, Charles.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joanne Kapanke, of Bangor, and by six nieces and nephews.
Ann's family would like to recognize the compassion and remarkable care provided by Appeal to Heaven. It was Ann's wish to remain at home during her final days and Appeal to Heaven assisted her to fulfill this wish.
Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lenmarkfh.com.

What a fond memory I have of both Ann and Charles. Both my daughters, Jennee and Sonja Christoffersen, had Ann for Kindergarten at Park School. They loved her. She had a wonderful way of teaching both of them. They were very different, and she lifted up their gifts. Both became honor students with her good start. My husband Jim Christoffersen worked at UWEC and knew Charles well. Jim was the UW photographer from 1964-1992. May Ann rest in peace. Well done, good and faithful servant.

I am a 1965 kindergarten graduate of Hamilton School and have fond memories of Mrs. Campbell. I arrived in her classroom mid-year as a bashful, quiet and frighten five year old entering a very large class of fellow "Baby Boomers". As I began to cry she consoled me and I knew things would be okay. Much advice given as a child last well into the latter years of our lives. Because of her, my tongue escaped the rasp of the cold metal of the monkey bars on the playground. Thank you.

Mrs. Campbell was my kindergarten teacher and set me off on a lifetime of learning--a remarkable instructor. I'll always remember her eye for fashion and that she had us singing "Blowin' in the Wind" like a traditional folk song just a few short years after it was written. I'm sure she left a huge mark on thousands of students.

My condolences to Mrs. Campbell's family. I was in her Kindergarten class in La Crosse in 1967. I always remembered her a a very kind and beautiful person both inside and out.

Mrs Campbell was our son Vince teacher at Randall School. One night She called us about Vinnys fear about his Brother Scott who was in the hospital in serious condition. Vince thought his brother was going to die. So we had Vince visit Scott in Hospital and this solved all his fears. So we owe Mrs Campbell so much more than words can say. Thank you . Amen.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs Campbell’s passing. She was my kindergarten teacher at Park School in 1975, and I still tell my family about her to this day! Mrs Campbell was so kind to me when I joined the class mid year, and I still remember her cheery sweaters and colorful big earrings with fondness. She had such a positive impact on my life during a very fragile time. Warm wishes to all who loved her!
