Dave battled with numerous illnesses, but he kept his wit, humor, and sarcasm with him until the end.
He spent his early years on the family farm and graduated from Lincoln High School as part of the class of 1972. He went to culinary school in Eau Claire and was a chef in Eau Claire's Whitehouse before moving to California. He worked as sous chef in California before finding his true career as a government worker. Dave had over 30 years at the postal service, and made numerous lifelong friends during his time there. After realizing there is no place like home he returned from Cali to Eau Claire, WI, where he retired in 2013.
Dave loved a good get-together if food, laughs, and drinks were involved. He never met a wit he couldn't match, a joke he couldn't time well, or one-liner that wouldn't make the whole group nearly wet their pants from laughter. Dave kept it simple by loving family & friends, food, and a good drink.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Doris Hass, and his uncle Dave Dahl. He is survived by his family: aunt, Marge Dahl; uncle, Sam (Sharlene) Kurth; siblings, Melissa "Mitzi" (Roger) Rich, Rhonda Hass, and Douglas Hass; his nieces, Amy (Ryan) Bergerson, Kaylan (April) Rich, Kyle Rich; and great-nieces Thea (Brad), Ella (Dylan), Nora, Iylla; great-nephew Sawyer; and a great-great nephew (Easton).
A special thank you to Caring Partners and the wonderful people who provided such great care, he appreciated all of you! No service will be held, just as Dave had requested.

Where does one begin...I met Dave in Junior High School as we were in the same class. All throughout jr. and sr. high school, Dave was always the guy that made all around him laugh. He was always the jokester and "fun" guy to be around, although there was a serious side to him as well. Dave came out to California in the late '70's to find sunshine and adventures. I lived out there as well, so we always got together for his "Strip N' Go Naked" drinks and great salsa and chips, with family and friends. When he moved back to WI, it was the end of laughs and talks for some time. Last October, Bobbie S. and I went to visit him at his Assisted Living facility. He asked if we would hang up his cow artwork. That was the last time I saw Dave. Mitzi is so right...Dave never lost his humor, nor sarcasm. When we return home to WI in April, I will share some former California pics of him. He will always be remembered in all our hearts. RIP Dave...love you. ~Jean (Gearing) Glynn

I met Dave in Thousand Oaks California, in the late 70's. We worked together for a time, and quickly became great friends. Dave and I also had many mutual friends and we had so much fun together, which now are some of my fondest memories...and Dave was always there.
Dave was always quick to laugh, and display his quick wit. When I joined the Navy Dave through a going away party for me and wished me well. I'm glad that Dave is no longer in pain, but I'm sad he is gone.
