Dean Haldeman
February 5, 1935 - July 31, 2025
On July 31, 2025, Dean Gale Haldeman, 90, of Augusta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Dean was born in Norwalk, Wisconsin, on February 5, 1953, to parents Walter and Violet (Buros) Haldeman. Dean was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith, which gave him great comfort and assurance throughout his life. In 1941, his family moved to Augusta, Wisconsin, for business opportunities, which included running a bowling alley and an ice cream shop.
Dean graduated from Augusta High School in the class of 1952. After graduation, he worked construction with his father until called into the service of the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and drove heavy equipment during the Korean conflict from 1957 to 1959. Dean always took great pride in service to his country.
He returned to Augusta, met and fell in love with Jacqueline "Jackie" Balliett. They were united in marriage on September 17, 1960. After a few different jobs, Dean took a position with Heekin Can Company in Augusta, which would lead to his Plant Manager Position. His career with Heekin would span 33 years when he opted for early retirement, as Ball Corporation took over and closed the Augusta facility.
Dean was an involved member of the Augusta community. He served in the Lions Club and on the Augusta Bank Board. Dean and Jackie enjoyed traveling, lake life, fine dining, dancing, and music together. He always dreamt of a 1950 Mercury Coupe and enjoyed a good car show.
Dean was talented and meticulous. He had great passion for carving especially faces, building furniture, hunting locally, and elk hunting in the Rocky Mountains. Later in life, he enjoyed bingo, reading, watching Westerns, and napping in his chair. Everyone loved his smile.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jackie in 2011; parents, Walter and Violet; sister Opal Markham and her husband Wayne Markham; in-laws Dean and Anita Balliett; and brother-in-law Fred Balliett. Dean will be missed by his sons, Charles Haldeman and partner Sandi Bauer of Durand, Timothy and Nancy (Tumm) Haldeman of Fall Creek; grandsons Cole Haldeman of Fall Creek, Cullen and McKenzie Haldeman of La Crosse, and Chase Haldeman of La Crosse; granddaughters Kayla and Zachary Rose of Eau Claire, and Alysha and Wyatt Elstran of Chippewa Falls; great-grandchildren Easton and Oliver Rose, Avery and Arlo Haldeman. He is also survived by sister-in-law Lana Balliett, several nieces, a nephew, and cousins, and will be missed by numerous extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the Classic at Hillcrest on the Green and St. Croix Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Dean.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, where military honors will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be in the Augusta West Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
