Larry L. Shepler, 80, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, September 2 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Bloomer.
He was born October 1, 1942, in Eau Claire, the son of Viola and Lyle Shepler. Larry graduated from Memorial High School with the class of 1961. He married Irma Hasart on April 21, 1962, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Eau Claire where they have been longtime members.
Larry worked as an installer of communication equipment for the phone companies for 39 years. He was active in the Communication Workers of America. Larry served as an officer for many years and also was the representative for the Installation Work Group of the National Safety Committee. He traveled many places for his job and the CWA union work. He was passionate about policies and voting.
Larry grew up hunting and fishing with his dad and brothers. He passed that love of sports on to his son. Larry enjoyed following the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Blugolds. He coached youth basketball for the YMCA for about 15 years. His favorite entertainment was watching his grandchildren in the sporting events. His next favorite was going to the football, basketball, and volleyball games of the Eau Claire High Schools.
Larry loved his family and enjoyed traveling to reunions, picnics, and get-togethers for the holidays.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irma; daughter, Sherry Shepler and her husband, Michael Medows; son, Troy Shepler and his wife Joan; grandchildren, Brent, Henage (Sara), and Lyndsay Simmons, Paige Rygiel (Jacob); great grandchildren, Deven and Damian Simmons, Daisy, Dixie and Della Rygiel; brothers, Roger (Shirley), Terry (Sandra), Denny (Rose), Randy (Mary), Danny (Jeanette); sisters, Mary Stygar, and Jacqueline Andersen; brothers-in-law, Harold (Sherry) Harart, LaVern (Marge) Hasart; sisters-in-law, Neva Robbins, Ina (George) Myers, Vera Kittinstad, Doris Valerio, Diane (Tom) Bibeau; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Darlene Smith, Gretchen Hotchkiss; and a brother, Micheal Shepler.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Chippewa Valley Cremation Services - Celebration of Life Center in Altoona with Pastor Matthew Gehrke officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
