Luella Jean (Gygi) Flater, 92, of Ladysmith, passed away on Friday, December 20 at the Care & Rehab-Ladysmith.
Luella was born August 10, 1932 to Phillip and Thurley Gygi outside of Holcombe at her Uncle Henry's house with her Aunt Ruth being the midwife. She married Earl Flater on May 10, 1952. They farmed in Sheldon for over 30 years where she took pride in her beautiful flower gardens. They retired on the banks of the Flambeau in Ladysmith. She was an active 4-H leader for many years as her children grew up. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in the many sporting events and activities throughout the years. She had a passion for reading and could read two to three books a week. She loved her kitties and was quite competitive in her cribbage playing. In her later years, she loved watching the Brewers, Packers and golf. She had many fond memories of her and Earl's travels and of fishing trips to Canada with friends.
Luella is survived by sister, Sandy Schoonover of Wisconsin Rapids; her children, Bill (Marybeth) of Naperville, IL, Steven (Leslie) of Redlands, CA, Dennis (Deb) of Ladysmith, Doug (Marsha) of Eau Claire, Sharon (Steve) Hauser of Gilman and Staci of Blaine, MN; daughter-in-law, Patty of Ladysmith, 10 grandchildren, Laura, Kyle, Drew, Craig, Kristin, Chris, Nick, Marisa, Steph and Derk; along with 17 great-grandchildren.
