Stephen Cyr Obituary

Stephen J. "Stubby" Cyr

October 20, 1946 - August 2, 2025

Stephen Joseph "Stubby" Cyr, 78, of Chippewa Falls, passed away on August 2, 2025, at his home with his family under the care of St. Croix Hospice. We appreciate their kind hearts and service to aid in his comfort.

Steve was born and raised in Chippewa Falls on October 20, 1946, to Howard "Buck" and Frances "Fran" (Swoboda) Cyr. He was the eldest of Buck and Fran's 5 children. His brother Charles (Jane) of Elk Mound is his lone surviving sibling. Steve married Linda Lou Linhart on June 21, 1969, and lived happily ever after in Chippewa Falls. Steve's siblings David (Jennifer) Cyr of Omaha, NE, Catherine (Ken) Girard of Plymouth, MN, and Dan Cyr are all in heaven with Buck and Fran.

Steve was a life-long Catholic having learned to be an altar boy at Holy Ghost Parish (here's to all the South-Siders out there). Steve graduated from McDonell Central High School in 1964. He then attended UW-Stout and Wartburg College earning his engineering degree. He later became a member of Notre Dame Parish where he and Linda spent the rest of his church-going years.

Stubby was an avid golfer, a storyteller, sometimes a BS-er, short-stop softball player, racquetballer, skier, loyal Wisconsin sports fan, and friend to many.

In his professional life, Steve was a keen inventor, creator, and entrepreneur. After leaving Amoco Foam Products in the late 80s, Steve and Linda owned and operated Chippewa Valley Textile for many years. He loved sharing his adventurous ideas with just about anyone who would entertain his notions.

Steve is survived by his loving sweetheart, Linda Lou; and his original pride-and-joy daughters, Cory Miller (Richard) and Libby Leinenkugel (Matt), all of Chippewa Falls. Steve's grandchildren later became the apples of his eye. To Kiara, Mathias, Elin, and Inga: Grandpa will always be in your hearts, minds, and daily actions. We're certain his antics and stories of non-sensical "isms" will rear themselves as your personalities flourish; embrace them!

Steve would want all of us to spread goodness and truth and peace. Please join us in raising a glass (preferably a Leinies Big "O") to a one in a million guy: Stubby Cyr. He always did his best to not conform (his words) and made sure to live life to the fullest by traveling the world and enjoying days at home on the lake.

A Catholic Mass will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on August 14, 2025, at 11:00am; friends and family are invited to visit prior to the Mass from 9:30-11:00am at Notre Dame. Steve will be laid to rest in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls. For those unable to attend, please follow pedersonvolker.com/obituaries/stephen-stubby-cyr for a livestream of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the McDonell High School Alumni Association.
