Thomas W. Simonsen
May 5, 1947 - October 11, 2025
Thomas "Tom" W. Simonsen, 78, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully with his family by his side at the WI Veterans Home at Chippewa Falls, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, after living courageously with Parkinson's disease for 25 years.
On May 5, 1947, Thomas was born to Christian and Wilma "Billy" (Dixon) Simonsen in Salem, OR. Tom proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy and many of his favorite stories came from those years. It was during his time stationed in San Francisco where he met the love of his life, Shari. They were united in marriage on November 23, 1968, in Strum, WI. Together, they began a life of adventure, including a memorable chapter living in a Quonset hut and time spent making lasting memories in Idaho and Hawaii while growing their family. After moving to Chippewa Falls, WI, he worked as Kinship Director and within the Chippewa County Human Services Department.
Tom's love for the water, sports cars, and artistry never faded. He was an avid sailor who cherished his time on the water. As an active member of the Lake Wissota Yacht Club, he served as Commodore for many years, formed lifelong friendships, and shared countless adventures.
He also took pride in being a member of the Chippewa Falls Optimist Club. Tom's love of sports cars was his one guilty pleasure. Despite Wisconsin's weather, he was always seen driving his 2-seater convertible. He was also a gifted woodworker and potter, graduating from the University of Eau Claire with a B.A. in Art Education. He could build anything and took pride in crafting unique pieces for his family that will be cherished for generations. Always keeping busy, there was never a moment when he wasn't building or tearing something apart.
Tom poured all he had into his family. He built a legacy of kindness, humor, and resilience that will live on in those who loved him most. Tom was the kind of man you could talk to about anything. He listened deeply and always helped you see the good in yourself and others. He never spoke negatively about anyone and had an unwavering ability to find the best in people. He loved his three grandchildren more than life itself and taught them the value of patience, humor, and hard work. He had a dad joke for every moment. Between his countless jokes and generous heart, you can't think of him without smiling.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sharon "Shari" Anklam Simonsen; his children, Erik (McKinzi) Simonsen and Jason Simonsen; his grandchildren, Jamie Simonsen, Zachary Simonsen, and Brielle Simonsen; his sister-in-law, Bev Shawn; his brother-in-law, Howard Cyphers; his nephews, Paul (Lynn) Huber and Jon (Marybeth) Huber and their children; and special family friend, Mike Huber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Wilma "Billy" Simonsen; his parents-in-law, Walter and Evelyn Anklam; and his sister, Pat Cyphers.
A visitation will be held to honor his life on Tuesday, November 25th, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St. Chippewa Falls, WI. In true Tom fashion, it will be filled with laughter, love, and of course, brownies.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
