Robert Schaeffer Obituary

Robert M. 'Bob' Schaeffer Robert M. "Bob" Schaeffer, 80, of Kittanning, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at ACMH Hospital.

He was born June 22, 1937, in Wilkes Barre, the son of Miles L. and Margaret H. (Yaple) Schaeffer.

Though Bob was not born in the area, he called Kittanning his home since age 3. He graduated from Kittanning High School in 1954 and Penn State in 1958. After graduating from college, Bob was the owner and operator of Valray Nurseries, Inc. until 2005, when he retired to care for his ailing wife.

Bob was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Kittanning and participated in the church choir and served on various church committees. Through the church he also worked with Ramps of Hope, Vacation Bible school and the Missions Committee. He was a devoted volunteer for the ACMH Hospital Auxiliary and worked in the gift shop. Bob was known for being a caring person and for taking advantage of any opportunity available that allowed him to give back to others.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, William Schaeffer and wife, Melissa, of Kittanning, and Brian Schaeffer and wife, Catherine, of Burbank, Calif.; daughters, Sue Hankey and husband, Rob, of Kittanning, Audrey Green and husband, Bernie, of Kittanning, and Patty Heasley, of Bethel Park; grandchildren, Jeff Hankey and wife, Steph, Valerie Kachur and husband, Matt, Natalie Vandevort and husband, Cameron, Tony Green and wife, Robyn, Derek Green and wife, Tara, Eric Heasley, Benjie Heasley and wife, Sarah, Miles Heasley, Dylan Schaeffer and Jess, Katy Schaeffer, Summer Schaeffer, and Wolfie Schaeffer; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Jean M. Schaeffer, whom he married Oct. 10, 1958, and who died April 2, 2013; and granddaughter, Annelyse Heasley.

Family and friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, 310 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Stinson officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington. Contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning, 301 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, Pa. 16201.
