BARBARA LEE SUMMERS Barbara Lee Summers, 77, of Olathe died Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Twin Oaks Health and Rehab. She was born March 7, 1945, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Russell Leroy and Henrietta L. (Jenicke) Summers. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1963. Barbara then attended Emporia College where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1967, and then attended Ohio state University where she received her Master's Degree in 1972. Her first teaching job was at Arrowhead Jr. High School where she taught math from 1967 to 1978. Barbara had a desire and passion to teach math at a high school level so she went to work at Olathe High School where she taught for 11 years. She ended her 45 years of teaching math at Maranatha Christian Academy where she spent 20 years before retiring in 2012. Barbara is survived by a sister, Carol (David) Wiseman of Leavenworth, Kan.; three nieces, Kim (Kirk) Quinley, Lori (Dave) Stafford, both of Leavenworth, and Kelly Chancellor of Cape Coral, Fla.; six great-nieces; one great-nephew; 15 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and her close friend, Doris Boster. She was preceded in death by her parents. Barbara greatly treasured serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She also enjoyed family, friends and fun trips with friends including going to Hawaii, Alaska, Seaside, Fla., and numerous spiritual seminars across the United States. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Maranatha Christian Academy.
