KATHRYNE CAPSHAW
02/09/11954 - 11/24/2025
Kathy Capshaw was called to her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2025, after a courageous 20 month fight against cancer. She was, to all who knew her from childhood on, a loving, caring, kind and compassionate presence in their lives who thought of others before herself. Always smiling, her quiet way made her easy to be around and even easier to love. Kathy spent her last days at home surrounded by her family and comforting them with her acceptance of God's plan for her and with the same grace and quiet strength with which she lived her life.
Kathy was born February 9, 1954, at Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., to Henry and Nell Hoffman, the second of six children. After graduating with Clint from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1972 she attended Kansas State University for one year before moving to Ruston, La., to join Clint at Louisiana Tech University. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education (with honors) in 1976.
Clint and Kathy were married June 4, 1977, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Leavenworth, the same church and school she attended as a child. As a young newlywed she awoke most Sunday mornings at 6 a.m. to take her Grandma Hoffman to the 8 a.m. Mass at St. Casimir while Clint went off to play golf. She taught second grade at MacArthur Elementary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., until following Clint to and teaching in Arlington, Texas, in 1983, Modesto, Calif., in 1992 and Katy, Texas, in 1996.
After both retired, the move was made in 2013 to the weekend house on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, where they enjoyed spending time at the many wineries and event venues in the area as well as boating, tubing and lake life with friends, family (especially the grandchildren) and wonderful neighbors. Kathy and Clint traveled extensively, often with friends, to Hawaii, Europe, New Zealand and Australia plus many trips to the Caribbean with Clint's diving buddies. They also enjoyed visiting many amazing places in the U.S. and Canada, including a bucket list trip to Niagara Falls in July with Christopher and his family. A Mediterranean cruise and extended visits to Rome and Barcelona in October with two favorite couples preceded Kathy's passing by a few weeks.
Kathy is survived by her husband Clint, her three children Clinton (Jessica) Capshaw, Christopher (Stephanie) Capshaw and Kelly (Joe) Goodman; her six cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Daniel, Emma, Thomas, Charlie and Teddy; her five siblings Tom (Linda) Hoffman, Patrice (Richard) Dannevik, Greg Hoffman, Jeff (Gretchen) Hoffman, and Janet (Eddie) Hamner; her sister-in-law Donna (John) Sumpter and brother-in-law Ben (Kristen) Capshaw. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews in Texas, Washington State, California, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shane Simpson, Dr. Priya Ramshesh, and the Houston Methodist The Woodlands Infusion Center; Amedysis Hospice; Father Ed Kucera and all the staff and volunteers at St. Mary's; the LHS class of '72 for 50 years of friendships and wonderful large and small reunions and, finally, to the many friends, family and countless others who have offered prayers for Kathy over the last 20 months.
