NANCY HARRIS Obituary

NANCY HARRIS Nancy Ann Harris, 80, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She was born on November 14, 1944, in Leavenworth, Kan., to Walter and Lorene (Brown) Boney. She grew up in a house surrounded by flowers and lots of cats and dogs. Her family consisted of her parents, brother Don and sister Janice. Nancy grew up loving animals, and being outdoors where she was free to roam the neighborhood and watching cowboy shows. Living across the street from Hawthorne Park, Nancy spent many hours attending softball games in the summer. She and her sister even ran a concession stand at the park. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brother Don and sister Janice as well as her nephew, Thad Boney. She is survived by her son, David Harris, nieces Karissa (Tim) Todd of Kansas City, Mo., and Celena (Brian) Deavenport of Denver, Colo., and eight grand-nieces and -nephews. She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1962. She attended K.S.T.C. (now known a:s Emporia State University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and also a Masters degree. Nancy was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and was awarded the Order of the Golden Rose in 2013 as a fifty year member. Nancy went on to teach at the former West Junior High in Leavenworth and finished her career teaching in several schools in the North Lyon County school district with a total of 39 years, retiring in 2012. Upon retiring, Nancy moved back to Leavenworth and was active in several organizations. She was a member of First Baptist Church, PEO-Chapter AD, and the Whittier club. She held several positions in these organizations. Nancy considers the three most important events in her life were, her baptism in 1964, her marriage in 1964, and the adoption of her son, David in 1976. Nancy began sewing as a young child and continued this throughout her life sewing decorations for her home and quilting. She loved getting together with friends and family, antique and thrift store shopping, and going to estate sales. She enjoyed reading and was interested in Western history. She was also a KU basketball and KC Chiefs fan. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Belden Larkin Funeral Home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will commence at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Bethel cemetery, Weston, Mo. Donations in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Association (Kidney Research). Arrangements entrusted to Belden Larkin Funeral Home.
