Barbara Pound Obituary

Barbara Swift Pound November 11, 1931 - February 27, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA— Barbara Swift Pound, 77, of Columbus died Friday, February 27, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, March 2, 2009 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1130 1st Avenue, Columbus, GA, with the Very Reverend Rich Martindale officiating. The graveside service will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Linwood Blvd. Mrs. Pound was born on November 11, 1931 in Columbus, GA, to the late Edward Wellington Swift, Jr. and the late Vera Howard Swift. She was a graduate of Columbus High School, Mount Vernon Junior College and Rollins College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the latter. Her professional activities included work with the American Lung Association, West Central Georgia Regional Hospital, and for the past 20 plus years she worked as a real estate associate with Waddell Realty Company and Coldwell Banker Kennon, Parker, Duncan & Key. She was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church having served on the Vestry and on the St. Francis Fund Board. Her charitable pursuits included, among other things, work with House of T.I.M.E, the Columbus Symphony, the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, Junior League of Columbus and Historic Columbus Foundation. She was a Gracious Lady of Georgia and a member of the Colonial Dames of America (former Town Chairman), the Tea Olive Garden Club, Country Club of Columbus, The Big Eddy Club and The River Club. She is survived by her sons, Jere M. Pound IV (Bobbi), of Ocean Springs, MS, Edward S. Pound (Meg) of Hinsdale, IL, William C. Pound (Carroll) of Columbus, GA, Howard F. Pound (Denise), of Columbus, GA, and Robert W. Pound of Carlisle, PA; her grandchildren, Zach Pound, Madeline Pound, Audrey Pound, Sally Pound, Lucy Pound, Bill Pound, Jr., Gabe Pound (Lindsey), Daniel Pound, Rebekah Pound and Caleb Pound; and two great grandchildren, Sarabelle Pound and Mason Pound. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sarah Madeline Pound. She is also survived by her sisters, Alma S. Winn (Jack), Mary S. Berry and Vera S. Smith T, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either Trinity Episcopal Church, the Sarah Madeline Pound Athletic Facility Fund (c/o Community Foundation of Chattahoochee Valley), the St. Francis Fund (c/o Trinity Episcopal Church), the House of T.I.M.E., Inc. or a favorite charity. Jere, Ed, Bill, Howard, Robert and the rest of the Barbara's family, please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Your mother was the first Sunday School teacher I can remember, a great spirit and influence throughout my youth and when I entered my professional life in the Real Estate business Barbara was my very first mentor and tutor. I considered her a great friend and my respect for her is enormous.
