Cyrus Washington, Sr.

May 17, 1936 - October 16, 2023

Columbus, Georgia - Cyrus Washington, Sr. was born on May 17 of 1936 to the late Ellen Lane Washington and Theodore Roosevelt Washington. He spent his formative years in Cameta, Mississippi. Later, the family moved to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, a town approximately 40 minutes outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He attended high school there and then enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. He would ultimately serve for 28 years and be honorably discharged in 1980. Some of the highlights of his military career are: serving on the committee which would ultimately establish the 1st Advanced Infantry Training Brigade, assisting in writing and executing the curriculum of the Advanced Infantry Training courses, working as an instructor in the realm of mortars, and working as a Platoon Sergeant.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Audrey Elkins Washington; two daughters, Robyn Lavette Early (Tori) and Judith Lynne Washington; a son, Cyrus Washington, Jr.; a grandson, Corbin Early; and a sister, Yvonne Brown; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Cyrus Washington, Sr. will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1:30 PM Graveside at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
