I was a student with Doreen at George Washington University. She was always tolerant of me and my sophomoric sense of humor, and I confess that I had a "crush" on her at the time. I don't know what possessed me to Google her today (2025), but I'm glad that I did. She had quite a future ahead of her when I knew her at G.W.U., but neither one of us could have predicted her future success. I was pleased to read about her accomplishments, but I'm sad to hear she is gone. Best wishes to all of her friends and family.

I am saddened to only learn now after 10 years of the passing of Dr Doreen DiPasquale. For odd reasons now at age 55 I was reminiscing on the surgeons who saved my life back when i was 19 years old where i almost died from a compound open femur fracture resulting in a fat embolism syndrome forcing me on a ventilator. Eventually i was stable to go into necessary risky rod implant surgery led by Dr Sam Wiesel and Dr DiPasquala. I will never forget waking up in the middle of the nights with Dr Doreen sleeping in a chair next to my bedside during my critical post surgery state. The loving care i will never forget all my life.
God bless her in heaven

The year was 1994 my hand was infected with streptococcus. She performed 3 surgeries at Washington Hospital Center in DC. just to save my hand and she did. Thank you so much for your skills without you I would not have my right hand. I just wish I had came back to Thank her in person. Rest in peace

I met Df. D after an on duty motorcycle accident in January 1992. I was blessed that she was the on duty surgeon that evening, text book advised that my leg should have been amputated that night. She chose to try to save it. Today I am a healthy, very active man who owes everything to Dr D.. God bless you Dr D.

Doreen saved my leg. In 1992 I was struck by a stray bullet as I was walking along a street in downtown Washington DC across from a basketball court on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The bullet tore my femoral artery and shattered my femur--broke it in half. The paramedics arrived in minutes, which saved me from dire consequences. At the Washington Hospital Center they patched up the artery, gave me blood transfusions, and turned me over to Dr. D for surgery on the leg. She managed to remove bullet fragments, piece together bone fragments, line up the two halves of the femur and secure them with a metal plate and twelve screws. I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks, and in the evenings she would come around and talk with me. As I recuperated, Doreen and I began a campaign against gun violence and in support of common sense gun safety laws. We appeared on television and radio programs, wrote letters to editors and op-eds. My leg strengthened enough over time that I was able to resume playing tennis, scuba diving, traveling and working for the Peace Corps in distant parts of the world. I cherish her memory and I am forever grateful for all that she did for me and for so many others.

I am immensely sad to just now be learning of this immense loss. She literally saved my life after being critically injured by being run over by a car running a red light through an intersection. My procedure(s) with her and Dr. Louis Levitt were indeed pioneering multiple Ilizarov fixation reconstructions due to the multi-trauma. She literally rebuilt my body. She was the sweetest soul and spent significant time with me when she could during my 6 month hospital recouperation. May she rest in peace ...

Dr. DiPasquale helped me through a very tough few years with an Ilizarov when they were at St. Joseph's. I kept touch with her and Dr. Cierny for a few years hence. I am very saddened by losing both of them. I have so many memories of her. "Looks like we have a project here," she said with a grin, after examining me the first time. I knew I was in good hands. She had the best bedside manner, so comforting and confident, always keeping my spirits up with her light humor.

Dr D did surgery on me during her time in DC. I randomly googled her name, wondering what she was up to all these years later. I am sad to see she has passed, but let this be a reminder of the impact she made on many lives. I remember her having a good bedside manor, and just that she was dedicated to helping people. I remember she worked trauma at the DC hospital, and helped people with major injuries from things like car accidents and shootings. She was a "boss" in her field. Thanks Dr D for all you did!

I knew Doreen in medical school, residency and for a time shortly thereafter. She was passionate, incredibly dedicated and strong willed. She cared for her patients and friends before herself. She was dedicated to making the lives of others better in whatever manner she could manage. Who could ask for more from any person? We should all be so giving. I miss you and love you. I will to see you again. You are always in my heart.

I am deeply saddened by Dr D death. She was the surgeon who performed my first knee surgery at Washington Hospital. She was a good doctor who calmed all of my anxiety of my first knee surgery. I just found out about her passing. I am a now retired police officer in DC. May she rest in heavenlypeace.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of this news. I decided to google Dr. DiPasquale today (5/5/15) to find contact information for her, so I could send an email THANK YOU to her for helping me when I was 16. I know she probably wouldn't have remembered me, I was one of many patients, but I will NEVER forget her. I met her in 1993/1994 at Washington Hospital Center. I was only 16 years old and had been hit by a car, resulting in a mulitiple compound fracture of my left leg. The first corrective surgery I had failed and Dr. DiPasquale installed the inhibitor that corrected the problem and I will always be grateful for her. She was a quiet but excellent doctor! I distinctly remember joking with her during one of my office visits, asking her why she always looked so serious and that was the first time I saw her smile. She was an excellent doctor, I am so sorry for this loss. -Myiah Robinson

Two tragic losses to humanity. The world is a brighter place for having them, but darker that they're gone. See you later my dear friends.

My wife and I are heartbroken of the passing of Dr. Dipasquale. She was an incredible doctor and person that cared for me at the Washington Hospital Center July 26, 1997 for 6 weeks inpatient. She saved my leg, where other doctors would have not. We love you and will miss you Doreen!

Unbelievable loss, two of the most heartfelt, diligent, intelligent, sweethearted people I have ever met. Dr. C was an angel sent from heaven, seeing me after four botched surgeries, and basically giving my life back to me. Doreen was an amazing light in his life and I could feel her presence, while in Dr. C's care. God bless! I see you smiling down on us all...

Back in 1999 she saved my sons leg from being amputated after a motorcycle accident. Two other doctors had given up and were ready to amputate after infection set in. She looked at it and said "We can fix this...no problem." Six months later my son was walking on the leg that was supposed to be amputated. God bless Dr.D, and may he hold her in his arms forever.

So very sorry to hear of this loss - she brought so much joy to George, as he did to her - they shared a tremendous love of life and a genuine love for each other - they were a great team, and did so much good for so many patients with very difficult orthopaedic conditions - a beautiful woman, a gentle soul, passionate about the care of her patients - she will be missed by so many of us!

Just learned of Dr. D's passing, many condolences to her family. She was on of my instructors at GW back in the late 90's. She was a dedicated teacher and mentor and she will be missed.

Dr. D took over my husband's care after George's passing. They were a great team! Dr. D was very kind and focused on her patients' needs above her own. Her patients and the medical world have lost a wealth of knowledge and compassion.
