OPELIKA, AL- Dr. Douglas H. Nichols (Coach) age 54, of Opelika, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011. He was born in Harris County Texas, April 12, 1957.
Funeral service for Dr. Nichols will be Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel with Minister Claude Flynn officiating. A visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2011, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m.
When asked how he would want people to remember him, Doug would probably refer to the days when his children were all young and he spent most of his time on a ball field. Doug was most known for the endless hours he spent coaching. From baseball, soccer, tee ball, to softball he was fully committed to teaching children the sportsmanship, fundamentals, and love for the game. There is no telling how many lives he touched over the years. Even now, when he would run into a player from the past, they would still refer to him as "coach," which always put a smile on his face. The only thing he loved more than coaching was his family. He will be greatly missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Holder Nichols of Opelika; sons, Justin (Carlyn) Nichols, Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Brent Nichols of Auburn; daughters Haylee and McKenzie Nichols both of Opelika; and brother Dr. Randall (Kim) Nichols of Dothan.

Dr. Nichols took care of all my animals over the pass several years. He was always so wonderful to us. He was like part of our family we saw him so many times with our babies. He will be greatly miss. God bless you and your family.

Dr. Nicols will be greatly missed ....we at Paws Kountry were in constant contact with him we partner up with each other referrring clients to one another. There are no words to adequately express the sorrow I feel in Doug's passing. I hope you can feel some peace knowing he is not suffering anymore and that he is in a better place. The great thing is we will all be together again one sweet day. What a promise! I gave Nancy my phone numbers. You know all you have to do is call and I will be there. I pray that the Holy Spirit gives you and your beautiful family the comfort that only He can give in the days ahead. I Love You!
