Iris was my mother's first cousin, and she spoke of Iris often, when I was growing up, as the cousin that lives in New York. As an adult, I lived in New Jersey, and was able to meet Iris when two of my children and I made a trip to her home in White Plains. We also met her husband and their son, Keith. She and I immediately bonded as kin and kind. We kept in touch by mail and phone over the years, visiting again when we could. Many years later, she and my family were both living in Georgia. Iris came to visit in our home on several occasions and my youngest daughter and I returned the favor. We had very happy times together, and she spoke often of her sons and their families and their pursuits. She was very proud of all three of them, their spouses and children. I know they miss her terribly. We are heavyhearted for them, and pray for their comfort. Cayley and I will always have a special place in our hearts for her. And Cayley has tangible memories, too, since Iris often gifted her with special presents, which Cayley will always treasure. We are broken, but we will find solace in the sweet memories.
