Columbus, GA- Janie E. Boland, 94, of Columbus, Ga. died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Parkwood Healthcare in Phenix City, AL.
Mrs. Boland was born in Bridgeboro, GA on November 8, 1919 and has lived in Columbus for most of her life. Janie was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church for over 40 years. She retired from Muscogee County School District as a cafeteria/food service manager, mostly at Benning Hills Elementary School. Janie enjoyed the many trips the managers made all over the USA to include Hawaii.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Bradley R. Boland, Jr, her parents, Henry and Emma Etheredge, a sister (Agnes) and 4 brothers ( Buck, Raymond, Jet and Gerald), and a grandson, Jeff Durham. She is survived by her two children: Martha (Jim) Durham and Brad (Janet) Boland; 4 grandchildren: Steve (Julie)Boland Wes (Christy) Boland, Bo (Kimberly) Durham and Marie (Kerry) Taylor, three great-grandchildren: Logan Boland, Bennett and Jillian Durham; two brothers, Glenn Etheredge and Gene Etherege.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mr. Claude May, Brookside Glen, Parkwood Healthcare, and Columbus Hospice for their care and support during her last year.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, followed by graveside services and interment at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 6161 Morningside Drive, Columbus, GA. 31909.
