Jimmie Smith Obituary

Jimmie Lee Smith, Sr. March 5, 1928- April 25, 2007 FORT MITCHELL, AL— Mr. Jimmie Lee Smith Sr., 79, of #5 Mount Olive Drive, Fort Mitchell, Ala., died April 25, 2007, at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Fort Mitchell with the Rev. Samuel Johnson, pastor, officiating and Eulogist. Burial to follow in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala. Visitation will be Sunday, April 29, 2007, from 1 until 7 p.m., according to Battle & Battle Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born March 5, 1928, in Comer, Bullock County, Ala., son of the late Jerelean Smith and Willie Lee Smith. He worked in civil service-Transportation Motor Pool, Fort Benning, Ga., and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher for many years. He was also a member of the Mt. Olive Sunderland Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Owens Smith, Fort Mitchell, Ala.; two sons, Mr. Jimmy Lee Smith, Jr. of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Mr. Rex Aundra Smith and his wife Sonya of Evans, Ga.; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Smith Birch and her husband Wayne of College Park, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Lee Pough, Fort Mitchell, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Lucille Smith of Decatur, Ga.; one step-sister, Mrs. Ethel Shipp and her husband Lincoln, Columbus, Ga.; seven grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
