SFC Retired John Gibson Jr. September 16, 1923- October 19, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA— SFC Ret. John Gibson Jr., 82, of 4568 Mayo Drive, Columbus, GA., died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at North Highland Assembly of God in Columbus, GA. with Pastor Jim Swilley officiating. Burial will be at Main Post Cemetery in Ft. Benning, GA. Mr. Gibson was born September 16, 1923 in Scotland, NC., the son of the late Mollie Gibson and John Gibson. He was retired from the U.S. Army after twenty one years of service. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a prisoner of war in Korea for two years. He was a member of North Highland Assembly of God Church in Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gibson of Columbus, GA.; one son, Walter Gibson of Saginaw, MI., two step sons, Kevin (Trudy) Nathan and Lorenzo (Vonkita) Nathan; two daughters, Marvie Brooks of New York City and Rachel Johnson; one brother, Walter Gibson of Newark, NJ., mother in law, Mable Sutton of Phenix City; aunt, Alice Baldwin; brother in law, James T. Sutton of Phenix City; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren
