John Woodall Obituary

John D. Woodall Jr. October 22, 1917- August 4, 2005 WOODLAND, GA— John H. Woodall Jr., 87, of Woodland, GA died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Columbus. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Woodland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Key officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery with Fred Goolsby, Nelson Goolsby, Gordon Lovvorn, Charles Garrett, Roy Kinney, A.L. Bone, Jack Buchanan and Jeff Smith serving as honorary pallbearers according to Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Mr. Woodall was born October 22, 1917 in Woodland, the son of John H. Woodall, Sr. and Alberta Mae Matthews Woodall. He graduated from Woodland High School and then from Georgia Tech in 1938 where he was the basketball team manager, President of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and in his senior year, head football cheerleader. Mr. Woodall was a WWII Navy veteran serving as a communications officer and was discharged with the rank of Lt., j.g. After his war service, he founded Woodland Furniture Co. which manufactured furniture that was sold across the southeast. Mr. Woodall served as a Trustee of the GA Tech National Alumni Association, and on the Board of Governors of the GA Business and Industry Association. He was a Trustee Emeritus of Andrew College and was active locally in Scouting. He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities and served twelve years as Lay Leader for the Columbus District. Mr. Woodall was preceded in death by his wife of fifty two years, Elizabeth Harman Woodall and is survived by four sons, Larry C. (Laura) Woodall of Stockbridge, Charles A. Woodall of Matthews, NC, Henry H. (Lynda) Woodall of Woodland. Mark M. Woodall of Woodland; four grandchildren, Wendi Raley of Woodland, Erin Woodall of Forsyth, Todd W. Garner of Matthews, NC., Stacey (Will) Teal of Manchester; two great grandchildren, Todd Raley of Manchester and Caleb Garner of Matthews, NC.
