Columbus, Georgia - CSM (Ret) Joseph Davis, 90, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in his Dacula, GA home. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Green Acres Cemetery. Rev. George Cofield will be officiating according to the Charles E. Huff's International Funeral Home, Inc. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home located at 927-5th Avenue, Columbus.
Mr. Joseph Davis was born on September 6, 1931, in Columbus to Frank and Jannie (Pitts) Davis. Joseph graduated from Spencer High School and married the love of his life, Josephine Marshall. Joseph became a member of the Nazareth Baptist Church serving as the chairman of the Deacon board, the Superintendent of the Sunday School and several other roles. CSM (Ret) Davis served over 30 years of active duty service, initially drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War and went on to serve in the Vietnam War. During his career, he received many awards recognizing his service to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (8 awards), National Defense Service Medal and many others. Joseph was preceded in death by his eldest son, Joseph, Jr. and his wife, Josephine.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Elton Davis (Lynette) of Decatur, GA; two daughters, Chandra Alford (Ron) and Linda Newman (David) of Dacula, GA; four grandsons, Brian Alford, Kevin Alford, Ethan Davis, and Nathan Newman; a granddaughter, Mya Newman; three special nieces; Annie Pearl Griggs, Alberta Byrd and Pearline Davis; a sister in law, Marguerite Lyles; two brother in laws, David Marshall (Catherine), Isaac Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
