Smiths Station, AL- Joseph (Joey) Dantzler Rast, 44, of Smiths Station, AL, formally of Cameron, SC, died Saturday, March 5, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2011 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, in Cameron with Rev. Wade Roof officiating, Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, SC. Family will receive friends at Thursday, March 10 from 6 - 8 pm at Dukes Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg. Other times at the home of his parents.
Mr. Rast was born in Greenville, TX a son of Heber E. and Gloria Dantzler Rast. He was a graduate of Newberry College with a degree in business and Johnson and Wales University with a Culinary Arts Degree. Joey was a restaurateur who never met a stranger and was known for his infectious smile which graced him with a host of friends. He was known for a generous heart full of love and compassion for everyone. He was a most loving father. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 51, Cameron, SC. Joey was a member of and served on the Vestry of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Smiths Station, AL.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Dantzler (J. D.) Rast, Jr. and a daughter, Shelby Marin Rast both of Moore, SC; parents of Cameron; brother, H. Edward Rast, III and his wife Deborah of Zachary, LA; aunt, Joanne Keen and her husband Woody of Cedar Mountain, NC; a niece, Marie A. Rast and nephew, Gabriel H. E Rast both of Zachary, LA. He was predeceased by his grandparents and an aunt, Jessica D. Ulmer.
A memorial service will be scheduled at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at a later date.
