Columbus, Georgia - Laurie Woodruff Waldrop, 72, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in her beloved home, Oldwood, in Harris County, Georgia.

Laurie was a lover of all things beautiful. As a true naturalist, she loved the land, trees, birds, and all flora and fauna. She had a special affection for dogs and raised countless strays. A connoisseur of art and antiques, she continued this love during her brave battle with cancer. Laurie was a beautiful person inside and out. She was a quiet and generous philanthropist.

Laurie attended Brenau College and the University of Georgia. Throughout her life, she loved animals. She was a benefactor of the Harris County Humane Society. She grew up loving horses and was a competitive equestrian who was also a member of the Midland Fox Hounds. She had a passion for teaching blind children to learn to ride. Laurie supported Historic Columbus, the Columbus Museum, the Columbus Botanical Garden, and the Pastoral Institute.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Dr. John Ivey Waldrop, her beloved sons, Frank Daniel Foley IV and wife Leah, George Woodruff Foley and wife Nina, and grandchildren Quinn and Bowie. She is also survived by John Lafayette Waldrop III and wife Jennifer, Helen Waldrop Brooks and husband Will, Mulford Jordan Waldrop and wife Whitni, and grandchildren, Jake, Wynn, Mary Helen, Virginia, Katie, Ford, Blakely and Mila, brother George Cecil Woodruff III and wife Laura, and sister Julie Bond Woodruff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Betty Jinks Woodruff and George Cecil Woodruff Jr.

She also leaves behind Christy Griffin Barnes, a dear friend and companion who became instrumental in helping Laurie through her cancer journey, along with Laurie's devoted caretakers, "Alex" Hiverio Lopez Morales and Eddie Lewis Jones. She is also survived by many lifelong friends and her beloved dogs, Basil and Doolin.

A celebration of Laurie's life will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m at Saint Paul United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 pm at their family home.
