Martha Gordy Obituary

Martha Lindsay Gordy July 3, 1912 - June 11, 2007 PANAMA CITY, FL- Our Mother, Martha Lindsay Gordy went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 11, 2007 from her home on Panama City Beach, FL. She was born in Columbus, GA on July 3, 1912 and lived there most of her nearly 95 years. She was one of 5 children and survived by only two of them, Shepherd Keith Lindsay and Ruth Lindsay Gordy, both of Columbus. Mother came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age, in the home of her parents James Wesley and Lila Shepherd Lindsay. She grew up in the First Baptist Church, Columbus and became a charter member of the Wynnton Baptist Church (now Wynnbrook Baptist) when it was organized in 1928. She was active in that church until she and Daddy moved to Dothan and then Graceville, FL where she joined the First Baptist Church. Mother married her childhood sweetheart Julian Dunaway Gordy in 1935. They were still sweethearts when he died in 1988. When his health failed, Mother patiently, faithfully and lovingly nursed him for almost 10 years. We, their children, Julian Dunaway, Jr. (Dun), Ethel Lindsay Hall and Lila Ann Campbell rejoice in the good and Godly heritage they left us. They had 7 grandchildren: Gaines Bruce Hall of Germany, Michael Gordy, Oregon, Julieann Girello, Kristie Martens, Kara Campbell all of Florida, Janna Maslonka and Joli Campbell of Arizona. They had 7 great-grandchildren as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at Southerland Family Funeral Home, 100 E 19th St. Panama City, FL Wednesday, June 13, 5-7 PM. Graveside services will be held in Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, GA on Thursday, June 14 at 2 PM. Her son Dr. Dun Gordy will be officiating. Expressions of sympathy may submiited or viewed at our online obituaty link. (www.southerlandfamily.com)

Sorry to read in the paper that your Mother had passed away. She had lived a good long life. I know you have many good memories that no one can take from you. I can say I know you will miss her and there will be many times you would give anything to pick up the phone and ask her a question or tell her something you know she would be interested in, but as time goes by it will get better. Also there will be dark days ahead but you have a God that will carry you through those days. I can remember her as a "happy person" always had a smile. We will keep you in our prayers.

Ms. Lindsay,
I was sorry to hear about MaMa Gordy. I remember her from my childhood and Bruce always talking about her. My prayers are with you. Please tell Bruce hello. I'll be praying for you and your family.

Love,

I was so sorry to hear of Mother's passing. What a full life she lived! I still have her towels that she made for my wedding gift hanging in my guest bathroom.
Your family has been on my mind for about a month now. I tried to call Lindsay on her birthday (April 30, I have not forgotten after all these years), but could not find her phone number or address. My cousin Alicia even called Dillards at PC Mall because we had heard that she might work there. Then, last Friday, June 8th, I was at PC beach and rode by the beach house at about 7AM on my way to Thomas' Donuts. I saw Lindsay's car (could tell by the tag), but I decided not to stop because of the early time and there were a lot of cars in the yard. Now I wish that I had. Perhaps I could have seen some of the family. I miss you all! You can email me at [email protected] or [email protected]. I would love to hear from you!
