Valley, AL- Marvyn Cohen, age 85, of Valley, AL died December 1, 2015. Dr. Marvyn D. Cohen practiced as a pediatrician and allergist in Columbus, Georgia for 47 years; he opened his first office in Phenix City, Alabama. He treated four generations of patients, and once estimated that he ordered 40,000 lollipops a year to give to young patients who feared shots.
Dr. Cohen served as President of the Muscogee County Medical Society, and he was an active member of the Medical Association of Georgia. He taught nurses as an adjunct professor at Columbus State. As the host of a weekly medical call in segment of The Rozelle Show on WRBL, he answered questions on the air, providing stellar and often entertaining responses. Dr. Cohen was a graduate of Emory University Medical School, and his undergraduate degree was from his cherished University of Alabama. An avid Crimson Tide fan, Dr. Cohen rarely missed watching and cheering for his team.
Dr. Cohen served as President of The Harmony Club, volunteered for Bonds for Israel, and supported many local charities. He played tennis for many years, and also enjoyed boating.
Dr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria Greenberg Cohen; his children: Jason Cohen, Harold "Sonny" Cohen and his wife Kirstie, and Mauri Cohen Artz and her husband Philip; six grandchildren: Max, Carson, Cassidy, and Annie Artz, and Taylor and Michael Cohen; and two sisters, Ruth Cohen Kravtin and Doreen Cohen Friedman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be directed to the Wynnton Neighborhood Network, or the American Cancer Society.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, December 4, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta with Rabbi Brian Glusman officiating.
A memorial service at Temple Israel, Columbus, GA will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 6, 2015. Arrangements by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770) 451-4999.

Dr. Cohen was a fantastic doctor and truly cared about his patients and their families. He cared for my daughter´s health throughout the years. Then he helped me overcome horrible allergy issues that helped improve my life. I am sorry and sad to hear that he has passed. My prayers are with his family.

Without Dr.Cohen I wouldn't be here. He saved my mother's life when she was 5 months old and so to honor him I named my first born son Jameson Cohen how was born shortly after he passed away.

It's been 4 months ,the kids and I still miss Dr. Cohen. Every time they go to the doctor they ask are we going to Dr. Cohen. I tell them Dr. Cohen is in Heaven and he's watching over you. He lets the new Dr. Know what too do, but they miss him dearly. Such a great person is missed by all.

I met Dr. Cohen around 41 yrs. ago when I started taking my oldest son to him. After 12 yrs two more children was seen by him. He was a wonderful doctor and friend. He helped me through a lot with one of my children and gave me advice that I will never forget. He was a very wise man. He told me once, choose your battles very carefully when it comes to your children because some battles are just not worth fighting. I am sorry that I was not able to get this done sooner.

Dr.Cohen took wonderful care of 2 generations of my family. He was a great pediatrician and a wonderful man. He will be greatly missed by this community that he served so faithfully. Some people leave a void in this world that can't be filled by anyone else.

My son was a patient of Dr. Cohen until he retired. As my son got older I tried to get
my son to find a Family Practice Dr., but he liked Dr. Cohen and didn't want another doctor. My son was in his 20's when Dr. Cohen retired. I found Dr.Cohen to be a very funny guy. I will
share one story as there are many more. When my
son was 5 or 6 yrs. old as we waited for the Dr. to come in to ck. my son as soon as he heard Dr. Cohen coming in door he would hide
under a chair. Of course, Dr.Cohen would play
along, he would start singing "Where is my patient"?, Where is my patient"? That my not mean alot to other's, but my son just loved that, and I appreciate Dr. Cohen taking the time to play along with him, and I think that's why my son loved him so much.
Dr. Cohen will be missed in this area, and I hope he got to enjoy some of his retirement days. He and Dr. Chastain were two of the best Pediatrician's in this area.They will be truly missed. God Bless them both, and their families and friends.

Now, I'm not one for cheesy, sappy posts, to which I brag upon certain things. I try my best to not go over-the-top with the cards I was dealt a few days into my life. However, everyone should know what kind of man Dr. Marvyn Cohen was. When my mom was unsure about the condition I would be, and doctors would tell her I would probably be "vacant," she would walk across to Dr. Cohen's office from the NICU, it did not matter if he had a packed waiting room, he would drop everything to tell mom what the doctors were saying. He also confirmed to her that I would not be vacant. I owe so much to him. I ask for no comments about my journey, I do ask for people to recognize this great man, and his amazing charisma. I owe so much to him. I will be there today, and I hope to, one day, speak to his wife.

Marvyn will be sorely missed by all of us. He was Lisa's doctor and she went to him until she was 18!!! Didn't want anyone else but Dr. Cohen! We were glad to have him as a neighbor at the river and loved watching Gloria and him on their boat, enjoying the ride! The world has lost a talented, wise man, but Heaven has gained an Angel!

Dr. Cohen was our pediatrician but he became a friend. He gave our children tender, loving care and was especially wonderful to our autistic young man. He continued to treat Reese into young adulthood and remained in contact with my husband and me to check on him through the years. I'll never forget him. Our community is fortunate he came our way. So very sad to here of Dr.Cohen's passing. My son was born in 1967 they met in the hospital,we followed to his office in Phenix City. Mark loved Dr. Cohen!! Then Amy Sharon was born in 1968. Amy only lived for 3 weeks. Dr. Cohn worked so hard for a positive outcome. The night she went to HEAVEN, Dr. Cohen rushed to my home and stayed with me until my family arrived and gave me a sedative. Years later Dr.Cohen invited me to the new section for premature babies. He said if we had all the new equipment Amy's story might have changed. Then in 1971 I was blessed with a sweet baby girl. Who also loved Dr. Cohen. All my love,prayers to you Mrs. Cohen and your children! He will be missed by me and my children. The Lord be with you.

My prayers are with family. Dr. Cohen was one of the great doctor in the city. We hated it when he retired and will be truly missed. He was freinds with my father-in-law Dr. Clyde Knowles when he was alive. He treated my husband,children and grandchlidren.
