Oscar Kaplan Obituary

Oscar Kaplan July 24, 1914- January 26, 2008 ATLANTA, GA—Oscar Kaplan of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the age of 93. Mr. Kaplan was born in Atlanta on July 24, 1914 to Charles and Ida Kaplan of Atlanta. He moved to Columbus, Georgia in 1944 and lived there for 60 years, where he was a hardworking and successful merchant, retiring at the age of 59 after owning Citizens Jewelry and Loan Company with his wife, Rosalee, for 29 years. Mr. Kaplan was a 32nd degree Shriner, a member of the Lions Club, and a member and past officer of Shearith Israel Synagogue in Columbus. Mr. Kaplan married Rosalee Clein on November 6, 1938. He was a devoted husband for 69 years. Mr. Kaplan is preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Kaplan Taylor, and his sisters Eva Levine and Annette Bailey. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Rosalee Clein Kaplan, sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Hyman and Susan Kaplan of Chattanooga, TN and Jerry and Maxine Kaplan of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Bari and Keith Bradley, Danny and Debbie Peshkin, Dr. Charles and Karen Kaplan, Stacy and Michael Goldberg, Alex Kaplan, Dana Kaplan, Bryan and Lauren Kaplan, and Caren Kaplan; nine great-grandchildren; niece and nephew, Ethel and George Delman and many cousins. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 28 at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 PM with Rabbi Max Roth of Shearith Israel Synagogue, Columbus, GA, officiating. Memorials maybe made to Shearith Israel Synagogue, 2121 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31906 or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Kaplan, You have my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences. My heart goes out to you and the family for the loss of such a dear loved one. No one knows the pain, hurt and feelings of loneliness you must have now that he is gone.

May the God of all comfort give you the peace and comfort that you will need to help ease the pain and hurt in your hearts and I hope will pave the way for all precious and most cherished memories that you shared together as a family.
