Otis L. Overby October 8, 1917 - June 14, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — Otis L. Overby, Sr., 90, of Columbus, GA, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Merritt and Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. There will be a private interment at Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 Ð 7:00 P.M. according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. Mr. Overby was born October 8, 1917 in Columbus, GA the son of the late Charles Payne Overby and Odessa Calhoun Overby. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Tulane Victory Ship during World War II. He was a life member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and had served as chairman of the Deacons and was a Sunday School teacher of teenage boys. He also was a member of the Harris County Cattlemens Association. Mr. Overby had retired in 1987 after twenty-two years as Postmaster at Fortson, GA. He also had worked for twenty-eight years at Archer Hoisery Mill. He was preceded in death by his sons, Terry Overby and Otis L. Overby, Jr. Mr. Overby is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathleen Robinette Overby of Columbus, GA; sons, Ronnie Overby and wife, Shelbie of Columbus and David Overby and wife, Becky of Columbus; six grandchildren, Bruce Overby, Jr., Michael Overby of Columbus, Susannah Overby of Atlanta, GA, Jay Overby, Jr., of Columbus and Mark Overby and Terry Overby  of Columbus; three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Flowers will be accepted but those who wish make make memorial contributions to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1232 Double Churches Road, Columbus, GA 31904.
