Canton, GA- Robert Lawson Waugh, Sr. (Bob), 78, of Canton, Georgia "slipped" peacefully into eternal life, Thursday, February 14, 2013.
His memorial service will be held at Union Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 2:00 pm with both the Reverend Brad Anderson and the Reverend Dr. Gil Watson officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall. Ingram Funeral Home of Cumming, Ga. is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
The graveside service is planned for family and close friends on Monday, February 18, in Sandersville, Georgia at 2:00 pm at the Brownwood Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Joe Buck officiating. May and Smith Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements in Sandersville.
Bob was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert McLuckie Waugh and Frances Lawson Waugh on May 13, 1934. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1952 where he lettered as co-captain of the football team. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was an active member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Ga. Tech Glee Club.
After earning a B.S. degree in Textile Engineering in 1955, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, at Cape Canaveral in the Missile program. His textile career was highlighted by his respected role as a business owner and international marketing and sales consultant to the carpet industry for 36 years. His company was recognized by many leaders in the industry.
Bob loved his family and was a student of the Bible, serving faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and lay minister for the Methodist Church. He was a dedicated Gideon, Rotarian, and an active patriotic American and world traveler. Bob was an inspiration to all who knew him for his eternal optimism, kind generosity, boundless resourcefulness and tireless work ethic. He punctuated his love for music and books by recently authoring a mystery novel and publishing his own collection of Christmas poems. Bob was a loving husband of 57 years to Dottie. He said that "his proudest achievement" was his three children and eleven grandchildren."
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cullars Waugh of Canton, GA, their daughters, Antonia Waugh Shields of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Dottie Fonte of LaGrange, GA, their son, Dr. Robert L. Waugh, Jr. of Athens, GA, son-in-law Robert Fonte and daughter-in-law Susan Waugh, and grandchildren: Grace, Elaine, and Luke Shields, Samuel, Peter, Jonathan, and Annelise Fonte, and James, Alex, Lucy and Emmie Waugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Hill United Methodist Church Library Fund, 2000 A. J. Land Road, Canton, GA 30115. Condolences are welcome in Bob's online guestbook at www.ingramfuneralhome.com

D afterear Dottie & family,
Bob was my father's "roommate" in the Roswell Nursing Home. My dad is Harry McDonough- Bob was a wonderful and exceptionally smart man. He look after my dad as his own. My heart breaks for your family but heaven rejoices! Thank you for sharing your angel with us.

Dottie,I am not even sure you will remember me from our art days together in Columbus, but Henry saw the news about Bobby online and I wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Our lives may have only touched briefly in this life, but there are memories that are interwoven for eternity, and we are so sorry for your loss.
