Conyers, Georgia - Mr. Roger Williams a former resident of Columbus, Georgia completed his earthly journey on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital in Conyers, GA at the age of 81. He entered the world on April 19, 1942, the only child of the late John Henry and Eula Lee Williams from Screven County, GA.
Roger received his primary and secondary education in the Screven County School System graduating from Central High School, in 1958. He matriculated at Fort Valley State College and received a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. During this time, Roger met his former wife Annie Horton Williams and became a proud member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He received a myriad of accolades and awards throughout his educational career.
Roger accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior uniting with Black Creek Baptist Church in Sylvania, GA. He later moved his membership to Fourth Street Baptist Church in Columbus, GA where he served as a deacon under the leadership of Pastor Reverend Dr. J.H. Flakes, Jr.
Roger served the community for many years during his employment with the National Federation of Community Development where he assisted people and communities across rural Georgia in achieving financial independence. Roger was later employed by the State of Georgia with the Department of Family and Children Service where he retired after many years of devoted service.
Roger was preceded in death by his former wife, Annie (Horton) Williams. He leaves to mourn his departure with cherished loving partner Barbara Bradham and his caring sister-in-law Francine Byrom; his loving daughter and sons, Shan Stacey Washington-Morgan and John and Reginald Williams; five grandsons Tramel Harris, Cameron Williams, Reginauld Williams, Christopher Hunt, and John Williams II; four granddaughters Daniell and Pandora Washington, Chyna Bell and Jhana Williams, along with five great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Sylvania Funeral Home, 905 South Main St, Sylvania, GA 30467 on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Williams will be on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00 am at Black Creek Baptist Church, 615 Poor Robin Rd, Sylvania, GA, with Pastor Wayne Fitch officiating. Interment will follow at the Church.
