COLUMBUS, GEORGIA- Thelma Katherine Beaty, 83, of Phenix City, AL passed away January 7, 2013. A celebration of her life in the service of the Lord will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, January 11 at Wynnbrook Baptist Church with Dr. Geoff Hammond officiating. The family will receive guests and friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday evening.
Mrs. Beaty was born to Travis and Hettie Osborne in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her younger brother, Travis Osborne, a dentist in Lebanon, Indiana passed away in 2012. Her only sister, Cheryl Osborne, resides with her husband, David in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mrs. Beaty attended Julliard School of Music in New York City where she studied voice and obtained her bachelor of religious education from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Married to Rev. Bob Beaty, she served with him in Zimbabwe and South Africa as a missionary with International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for 29 years. She is preceded by his passing in 2009.
Mrs. Beaty is survived by four sons, Jack Beaty and wife, Lucilita of Charlotte, NC, Dr. David Beaty and wife, Pam of Durban, South Africa, Dr. Stephen Beaty and wife, Jane of Columbus, GA and Timothy Beaty and wife, Mariam of Brisbane, Australia. She had seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Eyecare To The Needy, Inc., through West Georgia Eyecare Center.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff and memberships of Wynnbrook Baptist Church and Edgewood Baptist Church for their loving support.

While we never knew your mother personally, we knew she had to be a wonderful mother because she had such a wonderful son. As you and Jane and the rest of your family return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends...and may you feel the loving arms of God around you until your hearts begin to heal. We have a lot of fond memories of Thelma especially during the time we served with them in Bophuthatswana as well as my growing up years in Zim. Dear MK cousins my heart is holding hands with your heart in this time of sorrow. Although time has been an element in our lives being so removed from each other as MKs we share so much in our parents living an example of true service to our King and for His Kingdom things which forever connected us as MKs. I love thinking through the sorrow of lose that the number is increasing at the heavenly Mission Meeting. I know the true joy as I know you do, in the midst of our sorrow in lose, of knowing it is her home going full of deserved rewards and eternal love from the one she served so faithfully our Lord and King. Will be praying for your family as you say goodbye as it leaves such a missing piece in our lives. So very sorry for your lose. Nothing like our Mothers, nothing.
