William Hollomon Obituary

William Graves Hollomon III
July 11, 1944 - September 24, 2022
Columbus, Georgia - William Graves Hollomon, III (Billy) - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away at his home in Columbus, GA on Saturday, September 24, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. An honored veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Columbus, Georgia, Billy died after a short but intense battle with liver cancer.
Billy was raised in Richland, Georgia. Soon after his marriage he entered the Army. The U.S. Army recognized Billy for his honorable service with a Bronze Star. He didn't speak much about his time in Vietnam or this honor but he was the first to thank other service members for their service.
After working diligently to provide everything he could for his family, Billy retired from Char-Broil. Upon retirement, he spent much of his retired time playing golf, watching college football, and taking care of others.
Everyone who knew Billy knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle, and peaceful person and that he loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hollomon, his sister, Kimberly Gavin, his daughter, Mary C Lewis (Dean), his son William G Hollomon IV (Stacey), his son Andrew E Hollomon and his grandchildren Garren, Haygan, Ashley, Zach, Jessica, Mitch and Melissa, and 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
To say that his family and friends will miss him greatly is an understatement. Between his unselfish giving of his time and talents and his love of golf and family, Billy was a well-respected and cherished member of the community as well as a fabulous father and husband. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Kocian, his step-father, Gene Kocian, his Grandmother, Louise Hollomon, his Great Aunt, Martha Johnson and his brother, Jimmy Hollomon.
The family would like to thank Columbus Hospice on Moon Road for their compassionate care during Billy's short fight. They'd also like to thank all of the family and friends for their support and prayers during this difficult time.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, Ga. 31909. There will be a visitation on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 10:00-12:00PM at Striffler-Hamby on Macon Road in Columbus, Ga. There will be a memorial service at Living Grace Methodist Church located at 3969 Edgewood Circle in Columbus on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.

Dear Mary Carroll and family. My heart breaks for all of you. The sudden loss of your dad can be devastating especially one like Billy. The few times was fortunate to be around your dad, I knew he had a strong love for his family and his friends. I know the loss is hard, but Billy will forever live on in all of you. I pray that Gods peace will help you through time. I love you MC and am available anytime you need me.

I've known Mary Ann and Billy for a very long time. It was easy to see the all the love they shared. I know he will be truly missed by his family and all of friends.

Since I've known Billy he has always been available to help my family in any way he could especially after my husband died. Even before that in 1990 with my mother-in-law came to live with us we did not have central air conditioning nor the fence to have it installed. He took it upon himself to install central air in my home at no charge for labor. He was a very generous man. If you had dinner with him at a restaurant you did not pay. If you needed his car he gave it to you gladly. He was a quiet generous man. He will be missed greatly.

Some of my most joyful memories were spent with your family. Coming to your home was my refuge not only as a very young child but also in my late teenage years. I am grateful for your kindness, acceptance, peace, and safe haven. Rest Peacefully Mr. Hollomon. You will be greatly missed.

My heart is truly broken.....Billy & I rode the school bus as country neighbors to our Richland school every day. We graduated together in 1962 from Richland High School. Billy never changed looks from the day we graduated until a few months ago when he dropped by to see Charles & myself after his regular visits to do `cleanup´ as he called it at Harmony Cemetery in Richland. I was always fascinated that Billy never changed in personality or looks from the day we graduated! The same grin, same smile, always happy to reminisce. I will miss those visits and reconnection .
So sorry we never knew his loved family.
