Christopher Thigpen Obituary

Christopher Glenn Thigpen

Watertown, MA - With profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce Christopher Glenn Thigpen passed away on July 21, 2024 at the age of 41.

Christopher is predeceased by his father Ferrell Glenn Thigpen, survived by his mother Katherine (Raleigh) Thigpen, his wife Maria ( Siannas) Thigpen, his children Glenn Arthur Thigpen, Gianna Raleigh Thigpen, Charlie Ann Thigpen , his sister Katelyn Ann Thigpen, Damian Harr Lauwers, their son Jack Christopher Lauwers and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and work colleagues who loved and respected him.

Christopher was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 19, 1983. His family moved to Jaffrey, NH where he attended school and graduated from Conant High School in 2002. Christopher was an accomplished multi-sport athlete. In his early twenties, Christopher had his struggles with substance abuse and was treated at the Mark Houston Recovery Center in Austin, TX. It was there , that he discovered his true passion - helping those who shared similar struggles with addiction. Upon his return to New England, Christopher held a number of positions under the umbrella of Granite Recovery Treatment Centers, including Director of Family Services at Green Mountain Treatment in Effingham, NH.

Following his time in the field of addiction services and with the invaluable help of his in-laws, Christopher opened the Corner Cafe in Newton, MA. He was the face of the business and greeted every patron with a warm smile and a firm handshake.

Christopher's greatest accomplishment was his three children. Christopher or "Bubba" (as those who were close to him affectionately called him ), was a devoted "Dada". He adored his children and was a coach, playmate and true family man. They were the loves of his life and Chris's reason for showing up each and every day. He was an adventurer at heart and traveled the world with those he cherished - Switzerland, Guatemala, Costa Rica and multiple times to Greece to visit his extended family. He instilled his sense of wonder and adventure in his children.

Christopher will also be remembered for his sharp wit, great sense of humor, passion for helping others and an attitude of gratitude and humility. Christopher was planning on returning to his work in the field of addiction services. This was where he felt of greater service.

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held on Monday, August 5th at 11:00 am at The First Church in Jaffrey, NH. All are welcome to attend the service and reception following. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Christopher's memory.

Kathy and Katelyn: The Springfield family sends their love and prayers during this unfathomable difficult time. Our son, Peyton, still talks about the impact Chris made on him when he spoke to the JRMS student body when he was in middle school 10 years ago. We are sure he made a difference in hundreds of lives

To all family my heartfelt sympathies are with you . You would not kno me but I am a mom to one of the countless families Chris has reached out to in his work at Granite House . My husband and I remember talking to Chris many times on the phone when our son was in treatment. He also was a sponsor to him after graduation and today as he is sober . I was sad when my son had told me of his passing. I believe he truely was a great mentor to my son´s sobriety and to so many more. Mary Anne and Mark Cappuccilli

Chris was truly one of a kind. Talented, athletic, smart, kind, handsome, and a huge heart.

His children were blessed to have such an amazing father who will continue to guide them from heaven.

You will be missed Chris, but such an honor to know you since early childhood and through adulthood.

Mrs. Thigpen this is a beautiful tribute to your wonderful son. I met him in 2011 when my son was at MH in Austin. We had communicated a few weeks ago and he was eager to tell me his plans. When Greg Fabry contacted me I could not believe it. I am so very sorry. May God comfort and keep you. Those beautiful grandchildren are his legacy. What a good man! Cheryl Utz
