David Whipple Obituary

FRANCESTOWN -- Mr. David F. Whipple died peacefully on September 22 at the age of 75. David is survived by his two children Heather-Whipple Simard, and her husband, Stephen Simard, of Francestown; David W. Whipple and his wife, Monica, of Francestown; his brothers George C. Whipple and wife, Jackie, of Francestown, James W. Whipple and wife, Barbara, of Mont Vernon, Stephen Whipple and wife, Sandy, of New Boston, his sister, Dorothy Hebert and husband, Al, of Manchester, and his five beloved grandchildren; Nathan, Nicholas, William, Stephen and Emily. He was also a proud and generous uncle, seen as a role model to nine of his nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his adoring wife, Nan (Friedrich) Whipple, in 1989, as well as his two brothers Richard F. Whipple, and Frank R. Whipple; both in their youth.

David was born July 23, 1941 to Mr. and Mrs. Francis Whipple and Sylvia (Chandler) Whipple of New Boston, where he spent much of his early youth on his grandparent's farm up the hill (the Chandler farm). He graduated in 1959 from New Boston High School, and as a young adult worked on the Nickerson farm. He spent the majority of his working life with the NH DOT, from which he retired after 27 years.

David was more than an avid horseshoe competitor; he was an expert. He was actively involved with the Hillsborough County Agricultural Fair for decades with the Horseshoe Throwing tournament/exhibit. He was very well-known for his love of hunting, deep sea fishing and fresh water fishing.

David's garden was rivaled by few. He took great pride in raising a "small" garden every year, and was never afraid to try raising new, or different vegetables. Most of his produce was generously given away to anyone that could use it, or to friends and his family. David loved wildlife, feeding everything from deer, birds and turkey, to squirrels and chimpunks... most all of which he's named.

His generosity and friendship knew no bounds as his friends and family will attest. His wit, charm, one-liners and ability to coin phrases will be sorely missed. His presence on this Earth has made anyone who knew him a better, brighter, and happier human being.

Calling hours were held September 26 at the French and Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast St., Goffstown, New Hampshire. Funeral services are at the New Boston Community Church 10 a.m. on September 27, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Hampshire Fish and Game. I knew Dave from playing horseshoes at my house in Grasmere. He was an interesting man who spread his happiness and generosity freely ... he threw a mean shoe and made us all laugh a lot... Rob just loved this man... thanks for sharing him...

To all of David's family, May you hold your memories close to your heart and he will always be near. I met David when I worked in Survey for DOT. He helped out our crew with lane closures. I always liked his big smile and willingness to help us out. My deepest sympathy to you all at this very difficult time.

I havn't seen Dave since he retired from the D.O.T. but every time I stopped in at the Goffstown shed to look at trucks or equipment or when I saw him at the Highway garage he always had an infectious smile and laugh that he couldn't restrain and an even an occasional story to share to make me chuckle. In mybook he will alwaysbe that wonderful, no frills type of individual that was all about family, on top of his responsabilities while at work that anyone/person that knew him would always respect.
