H. Torrey Walker

1952 - 2016

JAFFREY: H. Torrey Walker, 64, of Jaffrey, died on Monday, June 6, 2016 surrounded by family after a courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Torrey was born on April 4, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Hamilton T. and Constance (Brown) Walker. Torrey graduated in 1970 from Mayfield High School in Cleveland and earned a BA in History and Education in 1974 from Ashland University. Torrey had taught Special Education in Ohio and at Mascenic and Conant High School. He had also worked in Human Resources and Production Management at Vanguard Manufacturing in New Ipswich. A longtime coach of Little League and Basketball while his daughters were young, Torrey also became known as one of the well liked refs in the area. Torrey will be fondly remembered for always stopping for turtles and helping them across the road. In addition to his parents, Torrey was preceded in death by an infant son and by his sister, Patricia Caunter Billington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Kathleen (Pilewicz) Walker of Jaffrey; his three daughters, Rachel Gontarz of Windham, N.H., Casey Walker and Torrey Walker, both of Jaffrey; his two grandsons, Walker and Hunter Gontarz; his sister, Deborah Walker of Seattle, Wash. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Torrey's life was touched by the incredible care and friendship of Dr. Steve Larmon and his oncology nursing staff who we fondly referred to as 'his angels'. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski and Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey. Torrey's family respectfully requests no flowers, and to honor Torrey's deep love and devotion to his grandchildren, would prefer memorial donations be made to the Gontarz Children's Education Fund C/O TD Bank, 28 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
