Hope Hamblet Obituary

HANCOCK – August 1, 1922 – September 16, 2017 Hope Gurney Hamblet died peacefully at home after a brief period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. John Brewster Hamblet Sr., loving mother of Joan L. Hamblet of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; John B. Hamblet, Jr. of Lowell, Massachusetts; Elizabeth H. Gardiner (James) of Denton, Texas and Laura H. Burke of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. She was the devoted grandmother to David and James Karlotski, Michael, Caitlyn and Christine Gardiner and Cullen and Connor Burke.

Hope's love for Lake Nubanusit and New Hampshire dates from her early childhood. For most of her 95 years, she summered there with her grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren.  Her father, Chester Gurney, built their first lake house in 1928, and as her family grew, so did their lakeside accommodation. Her friendships among the Hancock community were far reaching and cherished

A memorial service will be held on October 7, 2017 11:00 AM at Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Rd, Lowell, MA 01854. A private burial will take place in the Norway Plain Cemetery, next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Congregational Church, 47 Main St, Hancock, NH 03449.

I'm so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort, bring comfort to the Hamblet family during these difficult times.

Hope and Dr. Hamblet were such a power couple at Bethesda Hospital. Their grace and hospitality were enjoyed by all of us in the lab. My memories of them are as precious today, as the years we spent together in the 70's. It brings a smile to my face to know they are together again in eternity. Cindy Piening, MT, ASCP
