Joan Nagle Obituary
Provincetown, MA - Joan Louise Nagle (VanDerMaelen), age 91, of 100 Alden Street, Provincetown, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, surrounded by her four children, whom brought her great joy.
In the 1970's, Joan raised her family in Rindge, NH, where she brought her gifts and passion to the community. She founded a swimming program at Rindge Elementary School to ensure that every child learned to swim by the end of fourth grade. She also taught at the Clark Memorial Pool in Winchendon, MA, worked at the Jaffrey Recreation Department, coached field hockey at Conant High School, and held various roles at Woodbound Inn. Beyond swimming, Joan excelled in tennis and field hockey and inspired others with her boundless energy and love of activity.
Joan had a unique gift for bringing people together-through swimming, volunteering, organizing various retreats, and her favorite game, Rummikub. She will be remembered for her integrity, compassion, and deep love for her family, friends, and communities near and far.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, Alan Nagle, and is survived by her four children: Patty of Santa Fe, NM; James of Boston, MA; Lynea of Warren, RI; and Christopher of Truro, MA.

So many fond memories of Joan including her presence at my daughter´s naming ceremony on Coast Guard beach in 2005. She was one of a kind....and a very competitive Nerts player.

I have fond memories of Joan sharing her time & talents at the stretch and strength classes in Chatham. When that pool didn´t reopen after COVID, I went to a class of hers at Willy´s and enjoyed her company several times at coffee gatherings. She´ll be sorely missed, particularly by the aqua community!

Dear Patty, Lynea and Christopher,
Simply put, I fell in love with your mom the very day I met her. She had just finished teaching an Aqua-aerobics at a Cape Cod gym I had joined. It was such a wonderful surprise to realize, year later, that she had just become my neighbor.
We had many interests in common, specially films, the art house type. Whenever we ran into each other, inevitably, the conversation would turn to discussing those films we had each seen lately.
I am missing her.
