John Garabrant Obituary

John K Garabrant

Nashua NH — John K. Garabrant, 51, a Gold Star Father of Nashua, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2022 due to diabetes, kidney failure, and congestive heart failure.

Born June 8, 1970, a NH native, John grew up in Peterborough where he was active in his community with scouts, playing baseball and ice hockey, had a paper route in town as a child and later a volunteer EMT and firefighter with the Peterborough Fire Department. He completed his high school requirements in three years and was eager to get out into the world and live life. John's dream was to join the military. Unfortunately, due to medical conditions, that wasn't in the cards for him. Instead he graduated from the Police Academy in Concord and worked as a part-time police officer with the Lyndeboro Police Department for several years.

An avid tinkerer of things, John obtained a certificate in Information Technology and enjoyed a career in IT. Later he returned to school to obtain his credentials to become an HVAC technician where he finished his career. He loved to laugh and was always up for a good joke and a good time. He had the biggest heart and was always there for anyone at any time, often putting others' needs before his own.

Skeet shooting, hunting, go-kart racing, and a good cribbage game were hobbies John loved, in addition to riding his Harley. He was active in church, youth fellowship, and had a strong faith. He has been active with the Gold Star community since 2014. His children were his pride and joy and he loved spending time with family and friends.

He is predeceased by one child, CPL Brandon Garabrant, and his father Kenneth Garabrant. John is survived by two adult children, Mykala Garabrant and Jacob Garabrant, both of South Carolina; his mother Judy Rainier Garabrant of Peterborough, siblings Matt Garabrant and his wife Jessica of Antrim, Meg Garabrant and her children Molly and Maggie of Concord, Amanda Miner and her husband Steve and their son Steve Jr. of Laconia; stepmother Sandy Garabrant of Moultonboro, and stepsister Jennifer Hillard of Colorado.

Arrangements will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org), the American Kidney Fund (kidneyfund.org), a veteran's organization, or a charity of your choice.

I am so incredibly sad to hear of his passing. Over the last 37 years folks have asked me (and him) who is this guy you hang with or talk to all the time? His response was "That's just Steph" and my response was "That's just John". We were very good friends, and I will miss him every day. He was the BEST to watch football with (I hate football and don't understand it). He was at my house with me & my mom watching the 2017 Super Bowl. Every question we had, he answered patiently. When the Pats were looking dismal at half time he was ready to leave, but I said hang in, Boston teams have a way of pulling it out. He stuck around and was very happy. One of many memories I will hold dear. My heart goes out to his family. He's not Just John any more.

I am so saddened by this news. John was a good friend. A caring loving father of 3 wonderful children. A heartbroken dad from the loss of our American Hero Corporal Brandon Garabrant. John had a very strong faith in God and I am sure he has been welcomed in heaven by our Lord Jesus and his son Brandon.
