PLYMOUTH --- Steven H. Temperino, 63, of Plymouth, NH, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. He was born on November 10, 1962, in Huntington, New York, the son of Peter L. Temperino and Linda A. (Hughes) Temperino and grew up in Nashua, NH.

Steven lived a purposeful life of service to his country, state, and community, beginning as a lifeguard at Hampton Beach through his time as Police Chief. Steven earned his Bachelor of Arts from Plymouth State College (1991) and a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Hampshire (2005). He was a graduate of the 81st NH Police Academy as well as the FBI National Academy's 194th Session. He worked for the Plymouth Police Department from 1987 through 2012, rising to the rank of Chief of Police before serving as the Assistant Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the State of New Hampshire. He retired from the State to become the Chief of Police for Public Safety and Emergency Management for Plymouth State University until 2023. He received many honors throughout his career including the Distinguished Service Medal in 1994 from the New Hampshire Hundred Club and the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police for conspicuous bravery while he was a Sergeant for the Plymouth Police Department.

Before he entered college he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served as a reservist with the New Hampshire's Marine Rifle Company for many years. He served with Bravo Company 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment as Communication Chief in Active Duty during Operation Desert Shield/Storm (Persian Gulf War, 1991). Sgt. Temperino was a member of Task Force Troy, which served a critical role in the Persian Gulf War.

Steven was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma that was attributed to his service in the Persian Gulf War. Through determination and the care from an amazing team of doctors and nurses at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, he was able to spend 37 months building wonderful memories with his family and friends.

Outside of his professional duties, Steven was an avid hiker of The Whites, skier, cyclist, woodworker, and Porsche car enthusiast. He loved time with his family and friends, traveling, cooking, and campfires.

Steven is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia McAdams Temperino; son, Aidan Temperino of Boston; mother, Linda Temperino of Nashua; brother, Richard Temperino of Nashua; sisters-in-law, Cindy Espinola of Andover, Massachusetts, and Donna McAdams and her husband Rick Foster of Escondido, California; niece, Jillian Espinola; and nephews, Adam Espinola, Keith Espinola, Scott Espinola, Craig Espinola, Anthony Temperino, and Samuel Temperino. He also leaves his beloved dog Holly, and cherished cats Hazel and Harper. He was predeceased by his father, Peter L. Temperino.

Steven's family extends their sincere appreciation to the numerous physicians, nurses, friends, relatives, and colleagues whose enduring support and contributions enabled Steven to live with joy and gratitude throughout his lengthy battle with cancer.
